Raul Ibanez heading to Angels

worst case scenario is he gives them a nice lefty bench bat with some power. Best case scenario is he pretty much replaces Trumbo's .750 OPS and the lineup doesn't miss a beat

 

Now get Tanaka or Garza and call it an offseason

I would have rather seen the dh spot used to give guys a rest and to see if Cron or Green could stick up here. Although it's only 2.75m we all know scioscia loves his veterans, so Raul will probably play in the outfield more than he should.

Like this deal. $2.75 mil isn't anything in the grand scheme of things. Gives the team the ability to platoon with Green. Possibility he replaces Trumbo's production or even exceeds it. No real downside. No risk, medium reward. These are the types of deals Jedi needs to make to fill out a roster.

Really like this deal.  Green/Ibanez will put up better numbers than Trumbo and we still have 15ish M to spend.

#Angels remain focused on Garza, Tanaka for pitching. If they fail on both, will likely wait for bargains in late January.

Just get Garza.  People here have a problem with him because...Past injuries?  Contract length?  Give him 3-4 years, an option year as well.  Get him in here.  Very happy about Ibanez.  Really cheap pickup for the production we'll (hopefully) get.

I'm ok with the signing as long as he's only a DH. Hopefully, Pujols, Hamilton and Trout are healthy enough that they don't need to spend extended time at DH.

I have no problem with Garza.  I'd be fine with a 4/64, with a vesting option to take it to 5/80.  Of course I have no idea if that will get it done, but I have to believe such an offer would at least be competitive.  But I believe Arte probably wants to make another sexy signing by getting Tanaka.

One year is plenty, and then hope Borenstein will be ready come 2015 and move Hamilton to DH.

My problem with Garza is what he did with Texas last year, and that Texas had no desire to re-sign him.  Both are warning flags.

His skillset is very close to Trumbo's. Just make sure he stays far far away from seeing time in the field.

Ibanez will hit fewer homeruns but I think between him and Green they will make up for it. They will absolutely make up the RBI totals.

Ibanez deal leaves #Angels about $15M under the CBT. Definitely still in play for Garza or Tanaka. Willing to go over by a little if necc.

As it was stated in the replacing Trumbo article, Freese/Ibanez needs to be greater than or equal to Trumbo/Callaspo on the offensive side assuming Santiago/Skaggs and TBD are better than Vargas/Blanton
