Raul Ibanez heading to Angels

Stupid move to sign a guy with no future in the organization when the team is in rebuilding mode. He's just taking at-bats from guys that need them. It's one thing if the Angels were contenders, but they can't even break .500. Someone needs to wake them up to the reality! Trout (the future) makes $500K but they sign Ibanez for $3M? This team is broken.

I think its down to this guy or Debbie Downer to give the final spring training pep talk before the season opener.

I initially liked this post thinking it was some pretty good sarcasm.  Then I thought it might be serious.  Either way, it's funny.

I think the plan was pretty simple.  Sign Raul for his leadership and try to get as much out of him as possible from the DH spot while Cron gets going in AAA.  Ibanez has pretty much sucked sans some very key late game hits that have actually won us a couple of ball games.  Cron is now up.  They also have Green and when Calhoun and Hamilton come back they will have Cowgill to rotate into the OF mix and allow one of the other guys to DH.

They made minimal financial outlay, they didn't lose a draft pick and they made quick use of their org depth to supplant an underperforming vet.

What they've done here is exactly what good organizations do.

i don't really believe that was the plan, but i absolutely agree with the rest.

I didn't have a problem with the signing. I have a problem if he gets 500+ PAs no matter what just because he's a veteran. He needs to be released by mid-June if he doesn't turn it around. Give him 50-100 more PAs and if he still sucks, it's time for him to go.

I don't think it was plan A, but they knew they might have to go to plan B and made it so they could do that. No team has every move work perfectly. The good ones put themselves into situations with three best chances of success or the least amount of commitment to failed moves.

Because of how his season went last year (cold April, got hot in May/June) I think you have to give him a little more time to get going, though there's no reason to be hitting him in the middle of the order right now.  It was a signing with red flags because of his age and bad finish to last year, and so far it looks like a bad move.

Raul has had an awesome MLB career. Based upon how he has performed this year, his skill set may have reached a point where he needs to hang the cleats up.

That being said, its on MS to keep him out of the lineup.

But again, stop being snotty about it. Don't make fun of the man.

That's the issue though: Scioscia and his veterans. See Steve Finley.

Uhh Ibanez, about that May track record? It's 6 days into May already.

Well? We're waiting!
