  1. This has always been the case from my standpoint but my concern was that the Angels would do something that doesn't best suit them. Someone will give him 1yr with an opt out and it shouldn't be us.
  2. Hence the reason he's not going to sign him.
  3. The actual truth probably changes everyday. By the hour even. All of the things that have been said could easily have been accurate at some point. the hot stove is a fickle mistress (I've been looking for a spot to drop that in. Probably a little forced.)
  4. it doesn't always make sense. we see teams extend themselves for short periods. I think it tells us that there's more money and magical accounting in there than we are even remotely privy to.
  5. I know people have info to the contrary and we'll probably sign him right as I post this but I just don't see us getting Snell.
  6. I would much rather have Lorenzen and Davis on 1yr deal than Snell on an opt out deal and loss of a pick.
  7. The big nit is that he's pretty terrible defensively at 3b and in the OF. From a versatility standpoint though he's a pretty ideal fit - especially this late in the game. I don't think people realize how big of an upgrade a 2 WIN position player is for this team right now.
  8. NBA and NFL seem to have a fairly appropriate structure for free agents and newbies. Baseball is such a different dynamic though with the sheer number of players and necessary development structure. And the sheer volume of games. To me, the first step in all of this is incorporating intl players into the draft and probably more importantly, a free market for trading draft picks. I think that would change the entire economic landscape of baseball.
  9. there's a point where a lack of a proper spring impacts the economics of any deal for these players. are we confident that Snell and Montgomery are going to be as good as expected in the first year? theoretically it might pull a couple starts out but preparing for the season while actually in season is much different than getting your reps in from the beginning. It could affect the entire year.
  10. how about just not being very good and having a bad stretch.
  11. I hope Neto, Rengifo and Drury can each play 162 games.
  12. Maybe it's just me because I'm looking for it, but I feel like guys are pitching off their fastball a lot more than what I saw last year. Granted, could be that it's what they do in spring but it felt like the fastball was a secondary pitch last year.
