Not really.

Yeah.  This.  Huge cost for what, 18-20 innings for the rest of the year?  At these prices, it's really worth it to see what every Angel is worth, including guys like Shoemaker and Calhoun. Just those two guys could get us 3-4 everyday players with six years each of control.  I don't like punting this season and next, but it might be worth it.

Do the Cubs even need chapman?

Actually they do need better relief help. Rondon and Montgomery were the only relievers they had that could get both LHH's and RHH's out. The rest of their bullpen were specialists against left-hander's and right-hander's.

Now they have a pretty good lock down in the 7th-9th innings.

Everyone also forgets one other important detail: By acquiring Aroldis the Cubs keep him from going to another team where he could potentially shut them down in a playoff game. Paying this price not only sets the trade market value high but it prevents their opponents from acquiring the best closer available to use against them.

I couldn't agree more. If we can replenish the farm and add some close to MLB ready guys, everyone (except Trout) should be a trade candidate.

Going outside of the box a little bit, but what about Shelby Miller? DBacks have soured on him and are offering him up in trade. Maybe he just needs a mechanical adjustment or something minor to get him back on track.

They (wrongly) gave up Ender Inciarte and Dansby Swanson for him like six months ago. They aren't just going to give him up for a plank of wood now.

Yanks scored.  Traded for Chapman when his stock was low and are upgrading every prospect they traded away.  It must be nice to have an ORG that knows what it's doing and has a plan.

Must be nice to have unlimited cash.  The had the means to get Chapman him when they did.  There was no way Arte would have approved the deal to do that.

Yeah kinda like us with Greinke. We made sure that teams like the Tigers, Yankees and Orioles wouldn't get him to use against us in the playoffs.

The difference here is that Chapman will probably re-sign with the Yankees in the offseason.

Fuck Claude just stop, you MUST have something better to do, seriously.

Lol. But on a serious note Strad, we are sitting in last place with the highest payroll in the AL West. There are posters here that believe we are going to be competitive next season with the likes of Gia, Bandy, Perez, Choi and half a pitching staff. There are at least 2-3 teams in the AL West that have better talent on the field and in their farm systems. We really need to trade some of our best MLB talent and get a ton of prospects. Build for the future and scrap this plan.

Get a grip ... the posters here aren't the only ones who think we'll be competitive next year. If you choose not to believe .., then that on you.
