Definitely seems like a "we don't trust Cron" insurance move. But now the Angels have good, if uninspiring, outfield/dh depth. Joyce is ok and can adequately fill in for anyone other than Trout.

I'd love to see Cron produce platoon-inflated numbers and then Dipoto do another sell high trade with him like he did with Trumbo.

 

Can't say I blame him. The Fangraphs ZiPs projections for '15 round his production to 0 WAR for the year. This will be a big boost, worth maybe two wins if we are lucky.

Cron is needed to back up Pujols at 1B.

 

Joyce's power vs righties is fine, outside of a drop in 2014 (just 8 HRs in 384 at bats vs righties).   

Before that, he was usually counted on for between 14-16 HRs vs righties in some 300-370 at bats per season.

His OBP is usually at least around .350-.360 vs righties.  

That qualifies him as the #2 hitter in the lineup as the primary DH (more righties faced by Halos than lefties) and getting some 400+ at bats.

I like the trade. Jepsen made me nervous every time out there except with bases empty. Joyce is must platoon hitter. Cron's splits were marginally better against lefties. Should be some good battles for roster spots in spring training...

Not going to miss Jepsen... I just never felt comfortable when he came in games - even when he was going good.  Joyce strictly against right handers is a solid addition. 

 

This means Navarro will probably spend the whole year at SLC.

Late to the party.

How weird is it we would have killed to get jepsen or anyone else to have a year loke he had last year, and here we are in a position to trade him because of our new found depth. In all honesty im not too in a rush to move guys from the pen, because last year could be its peak (just based on bad luck), but its a great trade. Good, under the radar but solid move that adds some insurance.

Had a beer with jepsen once after a game. Was a really nice guy, wish him well in TB
