Angels interested in Anthony Rendon

While I'd love to sign Cole + Ryu, I'd be okay if they pivoted to Cole + Rendon, although to do that, Arte would have to be okay completely flying over the LT limit.

Rendon would slot in nicely behind Ohtani.  Having Trout/Ohtani/Rendon/Adell for the upcoming years would make this quite an offensive juggernaut.  Sign Castro to play catcher, trade Simba for a SP prospect to free up some payroll (Fletcher at SS, LaStella at 2B), and voila - the team would be in great shape.

Rendon is probably more of a back-up plan in case they miss out on Cole...not in addition to. But they could still sign perhaps one of Ryu/Bumgarner, or at worst Keuchel/Teheran, and/or make an aggressive trade for an arm, perhaps a bat as well.

Say, sign Rendon, one of Ryu/Bumgarner, trade for Ray, or trade for a Cubs SP/C. They could just opt to double-down on offense and hope the arms they are able to get work.

Trade Simmons for a SP prospect, shift Fletcher to SS, LaStella anchors 2B.  Rengifo serves as our utility IF.

LaStella 2B, Trout CF, Ohtani DH, Rendon 3B, Goodwin RF (for now, then Adell), Upton LF, Thaiss/Pujols 1B, Castro C, Fletcher SS

Rotation:  Cole, Ohtani, Heaney, Bundy, Canning, Barria/Suarez/Sandoval/Pena (whoever emerges, and likely to be a rotating committee).

Sure, I'd love another SP, but having Rendon in that lineup definitely transforms it and makes it really good.

The only way they would be looking at Rendon is if it's as a backup to missing out on Cole...and then going after someone like Bumgarner or Ryu and hoping they can win a bunch of games 7-6.

Yup, I think this is more the case...just put a little more faith in the arms we have and are able to get.

Castellanos looms too, and while he doesn’t fit as well as Rendon he could still come at good value, and Donaldson at fewer years.

Basically, there are options still. Minnesota won by just clubbing the shit out of everyone and having a solid staff. Weaker division, but there is a path still if we just opt for all offense and durable arms.
