I think you’ll see Chavez either as bench coach or back to his old gig as special assistant to Eppler.  If he is bench coach then Josh Paul will be on the bench somewhere as well.  No idea who will round out the staff.  Nagy seemed to do a pretty good job, at least I would assume that he had a hand in the performance of the guys Eppler brought in.  Alfredo Griffin has been here forever and I just have a feeling he and Dino will be out of a job.  Someone said that Wally Joyner was a hitting coach under Ausmus, so I guess that is a possibility.  That being said I have no idea if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

The hilarious part of this is anyone thinking they have a clue how this guy manages. Most people here have seen him manage 10-15 games total in his time with Detroit probably.

I'm going out on a limb that he has identified weaknesses in his prior stint, evaluated his performance, and worked to improve them by surrounding himself with people more knowledgeable than himself. But, that might be an idiotic assumption.

they had a hiring process. they interviewed all the candidates they were interested in and they made a choice.

He was.

Career minor leaguer.  I think he made sportscenter one time near the end of his playing career.  Remember when they used to do the exhibition game the day after the HOF ceremony?  He played in it (though not on a major league roster) and hit a home run.

 

He was Mickey Billmeyer in high school.  It changed to Mick somewhere in his career.

I like it.  I've very excited with this choice and for the same reason I think this was already a done deal: Ausmus is very intelligent, very cerebral, very articulate.  I could see that the "test" was designed for him to stand out.

I think it was probably discussed at length, including asking Ausmus how he would approach it. I wonder if that's also one of the reasons why you didn't see an inexperienced guy like Chavez didn't get the nod.

Do keep in mind he had to deal with another future HOF in Cabrera, as well as a borderline hof guy in Victor Martinez, as their skills started to diminsh so it's not like he's going in to this situation with no experience.

mentioned this earlier in the thread.  it has absolutely been discussed.  the plan is already set.  We don't know what it is yet, but it's out there.  My guess is that we're not going to like it.
