    He was a very good pitcher on some really meh teams in Minnesota and threw 285 ip avg. He was a #1 who went up against some really good starters. 35-40 starts per season!

    There were others as well. Whitey got Sixto Lezcano from Milwaukee in the winter of 1980 then dealt Lezcano, Templeton and a ptbnl to San Diego for Smith, Steve Mura and a ptbnl in the Winter of 1981. The Milwaukee trade was big as they got Rollie Fingers, Ted Simmons and Pete Vuckovich who beat us in the playoffs in 1982...

    The White Rat!!! I remember some of those 80's trades between Whitey and Trader Jack McKeon of the Padres... He tried in the 90's and we got Hubbie Brooks & Gone Days... just didn't work out.
