VHF, River Monsters is one of my favorite shows.  I am a fairly avid aquarist and also love fishing.  Jeremy Wade is insane, perfect mix of adventurist and fisherman.  Definitely worth checking out the library of episodes if you liked this one.  Some really epic episodes.

I told the wife that she needs to put this on her series record list. Will definitely check out some of the ones I have already missed.

Under the Skin - Loved it. Not a movie I would recommend to most here or anywhere as it is a movie I could see coming off as pretentious to many. It's definitely an experiential film more than anything as it's both visually and audibly captivating. Not much of a story going on, but it's interesting since a lot of the interactions in the movie are with non-actors who seemingly might not even be aware that they are being filmed.

I'm not going to pretend to have the movie pinned down and all figured out as I'm still digesting it, but I'm eager to revisit it.

I also saw Oculus. A horror film that has a lot of buzz going around and I'm a little disappointed by it. Overall, still dug a lot about it, but it's kind of a mess. The broken structure of the timeline is interesting as is the manner in which the story is told, but other than that, just felt like a fairly ordinary "haunted house" movie with some interesting ideas that didn't quite succeed to it's full potential.

Everest Avalanche Tragedy (Discovery Channel). What are the odds that Discovery was already filming a documentary for a live jump when this tragedy happened. Some of the images were tough to watch since they brought cameras to the avalanche site during the recovery mission. I didn't know that since the tragedy, they canceled all expeditions indefinitely. The Sherpas are refusing to maintain the mountain unless there is government reform.

TV series I've watched recently that I highly recommend:

Top of the Lake — 7-episode miniseries about a New Zealand detective (played by Mad Men's Elizabeth Moss) who investigates a case involving a pregnant 12-year-old. Beautifully shot, well written, well acted. Had a bit of a Twin Peaks feel minus the supernatural stuff.

The Returned â€” Show about a small town in France where dead people begin showing up as if they had never died. Wasn't sold on the premise, but my brothers were insistent that it's really good so I watched it. It's very good. The first season (which is available on Netflix) has aired with a second season currently in production.

Broadchurch â€” Set in a small English coastal town called Broadchurch, about homicide detectives investigating the murder of a 10-year-old boy. Excellent whodunit mystery with incredible writing and some of the best acting I've seen in a TV show. Also gives a little of a Twin Peaks vibe, not in eccentricity but in that it focuses on the citizens of Broadchurch and is about character development just as much as it's about the mystery.

Watched "2 Guns" with Denzel and Markie-Mark.

I thought it was very entertaining, even if the premise was WAY over the top.  It reminded me of a combination of "Training Day" and "Bear Island" with the multiple plot-twists and entire SEAL Team gone bad.

The two stars saved it with their back-and-forth, along with appearances by Edward James Olmos, Bill Paxton, and Fred Ward.

i watch bar rescue every week. it's a fascinating show and i'll admit i like to see the train wreck. i also like to see how well they recover.

they just wrapped their current season last night.

I like that show, but John Taffer gets a little too excited/pissed off at times. Still an interesting and entertaining show. There's a website (can't recall the name) that went back and looked at all the bars from the first couple seasons. Something like 80% of them had reverted back to the way they were before Taffer "rescued" them. Of course, they all kept the upgrades, just went back to their original themes and styles.

My wife and I are addicted to that show.  My son got us hooked on it.

We wonder if Jon is on some high blood pressure medication since he gets so pissed off in each episode,
