I LOVED Prometheus, but it was primarily due to viewing it in 3D on an RPX screen. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I had just seen it at home.

I put Prometheus up there with Life of Pi and Gravity as the best 3D film experiences that have been available to date. Gravity is BY FAR the best, but the other two are head and shoulders above the rest.

 

You obviously haven't experienced Metallica: Through the Never.

It looks my cable system now has the Smithsonian channel. Watched a few episodes of aerial America and dvr'd a few. What an interesting show. Looking forward to other programming from them.

 

spoke too early. looks like it may have just been a preview weekend to start the new year. tried to watch something last night and it was back to being blocked.

 

i'm guessing this means i'll lose whatever shows i dvr'd, too. bummer.

now: season one of downton abbey.

Lone Survivor.  Intense movie, tough to watch at times, well-filmed.  I didn't read the book but my brother (who saw the movie with me) did and said it was fairly close to what actually happened.  The end of the movie (right before the credits) brought me to tears.

I love that movie. It has somehow flown under the radar. Liev Schreiber is great in it too.

Agree. I've been following Downton for a couple seasons now. It's one heartache after another and tonight's episode has been the worse thus far. Well written show with fantastic acting. Maggie Smith (Violet Crawley) has been pure gold.

Dallas Buyers Club - 7/10

 

McConaughey is great. Leto is overrated. Movie is just ok. Kind of loses steam in the second half. Still well above average.

I thought it was great. Spike Jonze makes those quirky movies though, so you have to be prepared for that. It's not your standard love story, but more of a science fiction take on the subject. Amy Adams is also good in it.

My wife was watching Transformers 3 the other night. All I could think is someone mistakenly ran the first offline rough cut missing scenes and a temp audio mix. It was the worst jumble of crap I have watched in a long time and I gave up after half way through. It really could have used a couple of burned in time code windows and a This is Property of... title on the bottom so you would know this was a first cut screener.

I'm re-watching Mad Men on netflix. I've re-watched this show about 4 times in the last three months. 

 

Next on the list is Rome on HBO. I've only seen the first season, so I'm excited to re-watch it in its entirety. 

 

My favorite TV show on right now is Justified.

Don't that stop you for checking the movie out. When I first saw the trailer when it was initially announced, I thought it looked like a fake internet trailer. The trailer, out of context looks ridiculous. But the movie does a great job constructing its world that the story never feels unbelievable or cheesy. It takes a look at the idea so seriously, that the romance and the world feel more genuine than most any other relationship movies out there. Also, it's worth watching alone to see the sci-fi near future world they've developed for L.A., which was filmed in Shanghai.

 

It's probably my second favorite movie of the year behind Inside Llewyn Davis.
