Was actually thinking about this during the game the other night. The angels had been playing so poorly for a few nights, and he looked pissed. I wonder if he asked for it?

Like maybe he realized he was done, and the team wasnt fun anymore for him?..

I actually thought it was weird he wasnt in the lineup last night

Outside of the Trout extension and the Ohtani signing, this is probably the 3rd best move the Angels have made in the last several years

I laughed out loud when I read this.

Then I thought Wait... it might not be a joke.

That's depressing.

I need more info.

He must have asked for it. There's NO WAY they just did this because Fuck Pujols.

I think you are right.  He's been smiling a lot, really kinda being the happy teammate.  I think the dude made peace with the reality his career was over.   The defense has fallen off so much, I think that may have been the final straw for him.

Considering how bad his defense has been this is certainly a start

I think that has to be part of it.

Youd think theyd just bench him and ride out the season. But I have to think it might have been Pujols asking for it. He might finally be over looking so bad, night after night.

They’re running a short bench but he’s basically been the starting first baseman, (20 of 29 and has DH 2x) so that doesn’t really affect the bench. I also find it hard to believe just now they’d do him this way, with the end of his contract months away.

And if he wanted to go back to StL, they don’t have room for him, without a DH. So a third team? Or retirement?

Wonder if he just said he was done.

@MikeDiGiovanna
According to source, #Angels slugger Albert Pujols was upset that he wasn’t in lineup to face #Rays bulk LHP Ryan Yarbrough last night, and that the decision to bench him came from front office, not MGR Joe Maddon. Pujols was 6 for 9 with 2 HR, 2 2Bs, 7 RBIs vs. Yarbough.’
