Gerrit Cole signs with the Yankees (9 years, $324 million)

I told you guys not to get all wrapped up in Cole coming to the Angels. Sabathia retiring left a big hole in the rotation and surplus money to spend. The writing was on the wall all along.

I am okay with the Angels not committing the years and dollars Cole wanted. Sure, they still need another top of the rotation arm but that guy can be second tier and still help guide the Angels to the playoffs. 

I truly believe the Angels are in a better place without another contract of that caliber for the long term health of the club. But you guys are more than welcome to disagree.

Yankees are a Cole away from a title 

the angels were a 72 win team

Cole wasn’t gonna make him a contender especially tying up payroll at 324 over 9 years

I'm disappointed they haven't gotten much pitching, but geezuz.  Shake yourselves.  This contract is pretty outrageous and there's plenty of opportunity to improve the team in other ways.  I wanted Cole, but even at 7/245 there was a legit argument for spreading that money around.

Considering the recent history with angels starting pitching injuries they dodged a huge bullet with that contract.

Just saw a story in the NY Post that claims Bumgarner wants at least five years, but a dollar figure was not mentioned.

I don’t want to improve. I want to win it all. There is no path that gets us there.

Okay. Fair. We have a 1% shot in 2021. This team will be mediocre for another 2 years or more. Trout is wasted. He should demand a trade.

oh well -- gotta agree with Blarg -- in the long run we're probably better off not putting that much money on one spot -- if we had to do that -- we've already done it with the right guy - TROUT.

It kills me we offered less than 3.... but like the grienke deal, the competition has deeper pockets, and (likely) wasnt going to blink.
