Not sure in the division makes much of a difference when Maldanado is a free agent at the end of the year and the Astros/Angels aren't competing for anything this year...Astros are preparing to defend World Series titles, Angels are trying to break the record for most Tommy John surgeries in a 12 month period.

I totally agree, just never like helping division rivals, even if it has no impact on the Angels season this year.

The Astros had the talent Eppler wanted and Maldonado is a rental. This has no long term gain for Huston. It's a very good trade for the Angels. 

Next, trade Valbuena to Dipoto for their last prospect plus a PTBNL.

The procedure Sandoval will need is yet to be determined but will hence forth be know as Patrick Sandoval surgery.

I love Maldy but this is a great trade.  Interesting prospect and we get a better look at our catching depth, plus the option of pursuing Maldy as a FA if we want.

Pretty sure Sandoval is at least two years out. Which would be moving quickly.

Sandoval will be Rule 5 eligible following the '19 season, so I imagine he's in the mix for the 2020 team.

Pretty good return for a .3 WAR catcher as a FA at the end of the season.  I don't know whether it's exhaustion or variance, but his defense according to WAR isn't as good as last season.  

So with the prospect, start 2019 in double A, 2020 triple A with september call up?  2021 #4-5 starter or long man?

I like what we got from this trade. Can't get enough pitching, especially lefties.

Looking forward to seeing what we have from Briceno and Arcia. Hopefully, they play well enough to make a case for a spot on the team next year.
