A bat first fourth outfielder, or at least one that’s league average offensively, might offer more bang for the buck than acquiring a SS.  If Rengifo continues to improve and Fletcher recovers a bit and Squid/Soto play well, then the middle infield looks ok.

let me just extrapolate what you said fairly because it is what you just said.

if rengifo plays well, if fletcher plays better, if valezquez plays well, if soto plays well, then the 2b/ss looks OK.

i think SS might be more needful than a 4th OF.

No kidding. Where would a fourth outfield play? 😂 If anything, we need a glove first guy to ride the bench in case of injury.

i already know the answer, but let me just set it up. ohtani isn't a concern he's going to stay an angel under new ownership.

having said that, what if you could get tatis from the padres for a doable trade? would you do it? i know there's a lot of tatis hate, but his entire padres contract ends when he's 35. he's put up some of the biggest numbers we've seen from the SS position.

i don't expect the padres to trade tatis, and i would be happy if we got kim although he's far from the elite SS people are dreaming on.

Tatis to OF, Kim to 2B, Cron to 1B...they are set.

I think there's a $ factor in there also. They are better served playing a league average guy at 2B for 50% of Kim's cost and then working to re-sign Soto than keeping Kim and paying .90 on the dollar in tax. Not even Lacob was willing to do that with the Warriors (sorry to switch sports). It all sounds good but I think they'd listen on Kim, especially for a young, cheap 2B with some power and speed who has a few years of control............
