Contenders or Pretenders

Dipoto made a fantastic move getting Segura and Haniger. Main reason they're in 1st. Also Paxton looks like an ace for them finally

Having an ace hasn’t been their problem.  We need to be contenders.  Just play a little over .500 and stay alive until the deadline if we can’t do anything now.  There’s gonna plenty of opportunities to improve then.  Seattle is red hot and they’re going to cool off.

We play 12 more games vs. Seattle before the deadline. We gain 4 games on them if we go 8-4. We gain 6 games if we go 9-3.

Seattle is off tomorrow, and then play Houston Tuesday and Wednesday. I think Seattle loses both games. We play the Royal Screw Ups Monday through Wednesday. I will be conservative and say we win Monday and Wednesday. That puts us at 4 games back.

After this week, Seattle will go through a stretch mid-June where they play BOS/NYY 10 times in a row. We play the Red Sox 3 times at Fenway.

Before the deadline, we play Houston 3 times and they play Houston twice on July 30 and 31.

The way I see it, if we go 5-7 vs. Seattle, or worse, and the bullpen blows easy wins vs. BAL, CWS, TOR, OAK, then we will be more than 5 games back, and we are pretenders.

If we at least go 7-5 vs. Seattle, gaining 2 games, and the Angels take care of business winning games they should win, then we are contenders, and we trade for bullpen help.

Based on what I saw from the Minnesota series and games like Saturday where Parker and Alvarez can't get the job done, I say we are pretenders.

We’re 1-9 vs bos and NYy right now

if they go 3-7 in that stretch they already out played us against those beast from the east.

And it’s all a moot point if the angels don’t beat the teams we’re supposed to. Like the royals, twins, and what should have been a sweep against Texas , again

Mariners have won a lot of close games, but the good teams win those type of games. They are definitely in it for the long haul and not just a fluke.

And all this talk about how they're winning because they are playing easy teams like the rays, twins, tigers is stupid, because the angels couldnt beat any of them so what does that say about the angels?

How are we supposed to be contenders with the shakiest BY FAR bullpen of ANY contender????

NO decent or close lead is safe!!!!

By scoring more runs.  In the last 4 weeks we have scored 3 runs or less 17 times.  Since the rainout in KC we have scored 3 runs or less in 28 of 44 games.
