  1. Arte has paid Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, and Anthony Rendon 624 million though.
  2. He played for us at about 6 years/40M. Even 30M is half his market value. And remember, he could have stayed in Japan for one more year before coming, then he would have been able to sign a multi year contract without playing a single game here, just like every other Japanese player does.
  3. I understand the pain guys. It sucks. But Shohei deserves this. He played for us 6 years, getting payed peanuts. We may even have gotten his best years. I will be grateful he chose this organization, the 2 MVPs, and the great joy he gave us watching. It's too bad the team couldn't win. He wanted to go to a contender. I believe if we had at least made the playoffs, we could have extended him before FA. Oh, and the fuck the Dodgers. They are now my most hated team, replacing the Red Sox. Fuck them.
  4. Wasn't there a Tim Salmon version of this as well? I actually respect both of them for not signing the stuff. I think of them in higher regards after these hit tik toks.
  5. Suzuki is the better player of the 3, but here are their last 3 years in Japan for comparison. Akiyama .322 /.401 /.515 (GG at CF, 43 SB) Tsutsugo .284 /.393 /.545 (1B) Suzuki .317/ .430 /.579 (RF, 24 SB)
  6. He's legit, no doubt. But I thought the same thing about Akiyama and Tsutsugo. I thought they would be at least decent, but they both have sub .700 OPSs, 2 years in. They could both turn it around, but it's fair to suppose Seiya will struggle out of the gate as well.
  7. As a Japanese guy, I wasn't really offended by it, and most of the Japanese fans aren't either. But if he thinks mocking Asian accents is funny, he shouldn't be on that platform. It's one thing for random posters saying dumb stuff, and another for people representing a franchise to say it. I'm OK with him getting another chance, but he needs to grow up and learn not be so childish and immature. If you're gonna mock us, at least make us laugh. Pronouncing an R with an L and thinking it's funny, is just showing low intellect.
  8. Yes, but there are many ways to discourage pitchers from doing that. Change the rules. If you walk Mike Trout, you don't get to take the bat away from him. We've already implemented the ghost runner in extra-innings. If you walk somebody, you get a choice to use a ghostrunner, and Mike Trout bats again.
  9. The batter has the right to refuse to walk. If it gets to 6 balls, it's a 2 base walk. 8 balls, a triple. And 10 balls, a HR. There surely are ways.
  10. The NBA thought of getting rid of hack-a-shaq several times, despite it only happening at the end of halves. They came up with ideas like giving the ball back in addition to the free throws, although it wasn't implemented. Anyway, hacking is closer to the shift in baseball. Make free throws and it doesn't happen. The IBB is a lot worse, and there are many ways around the IBB. This would be extremely unpopular for the purists, but a batter can refuse to take a walk, and you can create a 2 base walk when it gets to 6 balls. Or, you can give the batter a free pitch, where a designated BP pitcher comes out and serves a meat ball when you throw 4 straight wide.
  11. Intentional walks. Baseball is the only sport in the world where the defense can legally take away the offense's best weapon with zero effort. It drives me nuts. Also, implement the pitch clock please.
  12. I feel like for some reason, black people can’t stand it when an Asian succeeds, especially in sports. I felt this strongly when Jeremy Lin had his moment in the NBA. Looking from outside, appreciating foreign things and embracing it is a thing the US should be proud about. And I would say Ohtani’s nationality is actually helping him more than hurts his popularity. I also don’t think StephenA is this stupid, he was jealous and itching so bad to discredit Ohtani. When that’s your motive, you say the dumbest things. Smith spoke his heart on this, he can’t stand it when an Asian dominates sports coverage.
  13. As a Japanese resident, waking up, drinking water, washing my face, and watching today's Ohtani HR is becoming my daily routine.
  14. When is the last time he hit a legit single? I know he's had some bunt singles, but it seems like his batted balls haven't touched grass in front of an outfielder for a long time.
  15. A pitcher winning the silver slugger at DH is much cooler anyway. Why lower the bar?
