Thatcher to Angels

When I saw Borenstein pushed up to AAA a month and a half ago it felt like he was being "highlighted". Felt like he was a potential trade chip and now its a reality. Good luck to him in Arizona, as Scotty said he should maximize his skill set there.

Not sure if I really like this deal.  Thatcher seems like a guy that can be really good and really bad, we have had plenty of those guys over the years.  Would have probably preferred dealing the same prospects for a better reliever.

But im not the gm and I dont know whats out there.  Ill reserve judgement on this until we see how he performs.  Would still like to deal for a legitimate closer so we can make the bullpen a strength.

A blah move. Giving away uncertain young talent for what we certainly know to be average at best old talent. This move does nothing for our club.

Even if he's no better than average it's an improvement over some of the guys they have been forced to use this year, at least he's a guy with a track record of success.   A week ago this team had no lefties out of the pen... with Skaggs back in the rotation they may have as many as three now (Roth, Santiago, Thatcher).   They have a lot more versatility now..  Roth could be a long man, Santiago can be used as a two way guy facing both RHers and lefties and Thatcher could be the specialist LOOGY.

If Grilli keeps pitching decently and Thatcher works out then maybe the pen is finally rounding into shape.  Best of all, the team wouldn't have given up a better prospect to acquire a closer.

Not sure I like Santiago in the pen. Keep him stretched out as a starter in Triple-A in case Shoemaker starts struggling or a pitcher gets injured(hopefully not). They don't have any legit SP options beyond Santiago

Wonder if we could call the A's and inquire about Milone who got sent down with their big trade?

Milone was 6-0 with a 2.62 ERA over his last 11 starts and 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 16 starts overall.

Agreed...Keep things open with SD and others but I wouldn't make a Greinke deal for Street or Benoit...if it's not reasonable, go with what we have..
