Still think the Mets have the best play at Ohtani.

Eppler and him have a rapport. Cohen would spend whatever it takes on an extension. They have a spot at DH. Paired with a healthy deGrom or Scherzer they're almost unstoppable, and he's insurance if they aren't or if deGrom walks. They have upper-level prospects and MLB-level players they can part with and not hurt their MLB club's chances. Only real lack of a return they have to offer is MLB-ready pitching, and the obvious Cohen v. Arte aspect.

Any 3-4 of Alvarez (consensus #10, 20 year old C in AAA with 19 HR, .883 OPS on season), Baty (consensus top #30, 3B/LF, AA, 22, .893 OPS, .300/13 HR) Mauricio (consensus top #100, AA SS, 16 HR, .743 OPS), Peterson (CA born 26 year old LHP with 3.54 ERA this year), Vientos (AAA 1B/3B, 22, .862 OPS, 18 HR), plus maybe a MLBer (Smith Guillorme, Davis, McNeil) would be awfully hard to not consider.

All of those guys could impact 2023 and could go a long way to locking in LF, SS, C, a rotation spot...areas we're struggling with.

If “paired with a healthy DeGrom or Scherzer they’re almost unstoppable”. . . .

Then why aren’t the Angels just committed to adding one or two super premium players so that is is the Angels that are almost unstoppable?

This is exactly what they should do instead of even considering trading him.

Arte Moreno

I know this is the one-size-fits-all answer to most things these days.

But there is also an argument for him being historically perfectly willing to buck up to get the player they want.  They have just chosen some of the wrong players.

Seems more likely he would have the same interest but might be more willing to let others help pick the right players.

Seems now they aren't hanging up about Ohtani. It's smart to at least gauge the market. This also gets teams to get excited and make their best offers. Interesting to hear that he considers Iglesias, Loup, and Tepera the ones they are discussing. I'm fine moving off of Iglesias, especially with Murphy, Joyce and possibly others (ahem, Bachman) filling that role. His velo has dipped to 93-94 also. The question is, is he a negative or positive asset at 3 more years and his money?

We know it because one is controlled for this year and next and the other for this year and two more years.

Could be true but we just don’t know what packages are being offered…media reports are usually scattershot, at best…

Replace one of the position players with a second pitcher, and I concur.

That's the trickiest thing with the Mets, not a whole of upper-level impact pitching prospects. Otherwise what they can offer nearly perfectly fits our needs.

Acquiring a couple OF/corner guys would sure make it easier to part with Adell/Marsh, Ward, or Walsh for pitching though...
