This could be a lop side trade for the reds.

Marte is consider a big time prospect, has an elite upside.

Arroyo, many in that system consider him the best overall prospect

Jarred Kelenic. Jo Adell. Dustin Ackley. Brandon Wood.

Big time prospects, with elite upside. Look at them.

Only time will tell.

DiPoto basically flipped a guy he got for free in the International market as the centerpiece  I don't count Ohtani because he basically fell in the Angels' laps, but we just don't have that kind of ability to identify and sign valuable &  flippable international players.

Ohtani didn't just fall into our lap.

this isn't twitter.  People aren't going to fall for narratives like that around here.  We understand how baseball works.  do better.

Unless a team is absolutely desperate and makes an offer you can't refuse you wait to the off season to deal Ohtani.

Emotions have cooled down, the season can be dispassionately assessed, a new manager hired for the Angels. Talks with Ohtani's management team about his desires can take place in a calmer atmosphere.

How he might adjust to a deadline deal could also be questionable. He would be suddenly be in a new city, different environment, team mates and coaches. And the heat of a pennant race. Expectations would be of him as Superman. Aninstant saviour. A tough scenario to walk into after being only with the Angels and having the same routine his MLB career. An off season deal gives him time to prepare and adjust before 2023 begins.

If he stays next year as a lame duck player every day will be a soap opera and distraction.

Sadly, a trade is the only way to immediately upgrade depth and young talent. I would prefer he stays long term. But if it stretches out it will make the Trout watch seem simple in comparison. At that time the Angels looked better with positive near term expectations. Hard to think Ohtani sees much of a positive direction after what he's endured so far.
