  1. Although bad for my blood pressure, I like salt as much as the next guy. Unless Ohtani specifically asks to be traded or specifically says he won't be back, I'm not trading him, so if fine with Ron's Intel. And I don't have confidence in the Angels acumen in identifying prospect talent. The teams that can identify gems and polish them could make such a deal, but the Angels aren't one of them.... And, sorry, but who is William Frederickson again?
  2. If he sincerely wanted the job & still had the passion for it, I'd hire him tomorrow.
  3. I agree with the OP-- I'm not trading him. However if he asks to be traded, there are roughly 12 teams with legit playoff aspirations... Most if whom won't consider resigning Ohtani in the off-season....but with enough "motivation" to deal, because this may be their opportunity to win before he signs with the Dodgers (or other team that's better organizationally). Atlanta doesn't need him to win, but teams like the D-backs, Reds, Marlins, Dodgers and maybe the Giants......and Ohtani would put any of the AL contenders in the playoff driver's seat. He gives you the best chance to win games 1, 4 & 7 of a playoff series. I'd play one off of another and see if you get something you like. That said, prospects are a risky proposition and are just as likely to flame-out. If I'm only offered someone's 10th best AA 18 year old or other low-potential prospects, I'd rather keep Shohei & try to woo him in FA.
  4. Ohtani, Rendon & Renfroe to the Dogs..... for Stone, Pepiot & Andrew Friedman. I think Rendon has a -999 trade value, but if they want Ohtani, make em earn it.
  5. Baseball draft seems to be more of an inexact science than other pro sports. I used to have high expectations of 1st round picks but as the Angels (and other teams) have demonstrated, there are usually more misses than hits... Still have a newish regime, a new-ish scouting staff & talent evaluation leadership, so im willing to let them show me that they can get it right.... but the Angels have one of the lowest rated minors talent pool for a reason. Partially due to them coughing-up draft picks due to signing regrettable FA's, but also due to missteps in talent evaluation, player development and this strategy of willfully leaving higher ceiling players on the draft board in hopes of attracting meaningful talent in later rounds. ... Hopefully this kid works out, because drafting in the 10-15 range should yield you a future impact starter.
  6. The only reason I'd trade Mike Trout is if he requested it.
  7. I assume the Angels have discussed an extension with Ohtani's agent. Have the Angels offered and been rebuffed? Otherwise, make the best offer you're comfortable with and then add some sweeteners-- like periodic "opt out", or whatever... I don't know that anyone wants to trade him, but if you must, package Rendon as part of the deal. Play the contending teams with desirable prospects off of one another until a palatable deal is made.
  8. This is supposed to be a baseball topic, so I'll keep it brief.... But all the "Socialism" talk reminds me of the notion that all the people in the US that advocate for Socialism, have never lived under a Socialist government, but those that have, have moved mountains to try to immigrate to the US.
  9. I think this is my 4th or 5th. I have a ways to go.
  10. This.... It was Bob Miller & Rich Marotta back in the day that kept me interested in Kings Hockey. Bob is awesome.
  11. This .. The Angels have wasted so much money over the years signing FA's that had their best years with Other teams-- Pujols, Hamilton, Matthews, Cozart, etal. In Trout, we have a generational player that was born& raised an Angel and, for a few years, was the only reason to watch the games. I'd generally always have Angel games on TV in the background, but would stop what I was doing when Trout came to the plate. He showed loyalty & confidence by signing (granted for a sheet-load if money) but I'm satisfied with returning that loyalty for a special talent like Trout & wouldn't consider trading him...even in theory. That said, if he were to REQUEST a trade for a valid reason, I'd ask him where he wanted to go and see if a deal made sense. Ditto that for Ohtani. The Angels should simply offer him the max they're willing to that makes sense... Add in periodic opt-out clauses, NTC or whatever sweetener gets it done. If he says "no", then the Angels did their best to make it happen & we get the draft pick. If he requests a trade between now & seasons end, I try to accommodate him.
  12. I've had the misfortune of traveling to Portland a few times over the last year, and that is a big fat NO. Carolina, Tennessee, Utah.... or someplace in-between like Oklahoma. They could all support MLB. I've been to all those places, and somewhere roughly in the 35-40 degree range.
  13. Offer him the max you're willing to offer, or determine what terms he needs to stay. If there's common ground, then we're good... If not: Unless we're comfortably going to make the playoffs & the team is firing on all cylinders-- enough to make a legitimate run-- IDK that I'd risk keeping him for only a draft pick, unless he indicated a sincere willingness to stay beyond this season.
  14. about $500,000 commission to split between the listing & selling agents. Nice work if you can get it.
  15. I went to the Drillers game last night and Percival pitched 1-1/3 innings. He had control issues with his breaking ball, balked a couple of times, but was consistently 95 - 96 with his fastball and topped at 97. I saw enough that I think the Angels should have offered him a FA contract for what he signed for. Also saw what-might-have-been-Angel Andy Pages. Still not sure about that whole nixxed trade, but if you believe in Rengifo & Ward, I guess it was a good thing we passed.
  16. I wish we would have re-signed Nolan Ryan back in 1979.
  17. Wouldn't shock me I'd they pursued a high-profile, big name, over 30, outfielder in the offseason...and overpay to get him.
  18. DiPoto basically flipped a guy he got for free in the International market as the centerpiece I don't count Ohtani because he basically fell in the Angels' laps, but we just don't have that kind of ability to identify and sign valuable & flippable international players.
  19. I vote to sign him to a monster contract....unless: The Angels need to approach him with their best offer. Don't start low ball and then d--k around. If he turns down your honest best offer, then trade him. And if Moreno won't trade him to the Dodgers or Mets because of Eppler or some perceived cross-town rivalry-- and pass on a better deal for HIS team, then screw him. His stupid baseball decisions, his stupid GM's, his lack of developmental vision caused this mess. Ohtani basically fell into the Angles laps, but they are just a awful team. If it's the best deal for the Angels, Trade him to the Dodgers in the above scenario, except make sure Andrew Friedman is part of the deal coming to the Angels. It's all about championships and it starts with talented leadership.
  20. Why would the Tigers consider trading a young, cost controlled pitcher that's showing "breakout" potential? They need to rebuild too. Unless they think they're selling high on a guy that can't sustain his present numbers.
  21. Of course it depends on the return in a trade, but I'd take a look at offering him another contract before I trade him. If he prefers the free agency market again, trade him.
  22. Any deal with the Dodgers would have to include Andrew Friedman coming our way.
  23. For me, it's all about winning championships. The Angels have stunk for the last several years, but watching Trout & Ohtani keep me religiously tuning in...but it's a false sense of accomplishment when your team finishes below .500 but one of your players wins MVP. I would trade anyone on the team if it were an obvious step toward long term competiveness. I would also sign anyone long term if he were an obvious step toward long term competiveness. But the Angels-- for years--have NOT demonstrated any acumen in player evaluation, development or acquisition. We're still feeling the organizational setbacks from as far back as the Tony Reagins era ...So unless they involve a 3rd team and get the best obvious 'cant miss' prospects from each of those orgainizations in a trade, I try to sign him long term with the best offer you're willing to make-- no dicking around. If he says no, I Juan Soto him as soon as I can before he suffers another injury.
  24. If I thought my team needed a set-up man or closer to be a difference-maker in the playoffs...and the Angels paid down some salary, I'd take a good look at Iglesias.
