Preller: "So... Ohtani?"

Minasian: "How about Noah, he's 'Ohtani Light' - minus the two way thing and minus the 100 mph fastball?"

Preller:  "Ask Arte, please."

Minasian: "Mr. Moreno, sorry to bother you on your yacht....but here's a crazy idea..."

Moreno: "And lose 2/3 of my fan base to San Diego?"

Minasian: "Our metrics predict only about 22%"

Moreno: "Including Canadians?"

Minasian: "Yes."

Moreno:  "Hmmm."

Benintendi doesn't get a top prospect, but three 40 FV prospects. Decent pitching prospects, but nothing that'll knock your socks off.

If that's the barometer, expect Syndergaard to cost probably one of those guys. Benintendi doesn't really have any substitutes on the market and Syndergaard does.

There’s a way greater demand for SP than there is for LF.

There’s only 30 starting LF spots, but there are 150 starting pitcher spots.

If that’s the package no team can compete with that.

Is this a package that makes trading Ohtani worth it? Would we get that kind of value for Ohtani? I don’t know much about the Padres but there are a lot of highly regarded names there.

If the Padres offered us that for Ohtani I’d drive him to Petco Park.  We aren’t getting close to that

Gore is on the IL now with an elbow injury and has been complete dogshit since June. Abrams and Hassell are really the only two gets here if Gore turns out to be a bust. Morejon seems like a reliever at this point and can't seem to stay healthy too.

But then again we might. A team would be willing to give up a lot if there's confidence they can sign him long term. Plus, It's almost impossible to judge his value, which make me believe teams would have to overpay to pry him away from the Angels and if they sign him long term, it's much more palatable.

Abrams/Gore/Hassell might still be the package for him.

Still think the Mets have the best play at Ohtani.

Eppler and him have a rapport. Cohen would spend whatever it takes on an extension. They have a spot at DH. Paired with a healthy deGrom or Scherzer they're almost unstoppable, and he's insurance if they aren't or if deGrom walks. They have upper-level prospects and MLB-level players they can part with and not hurt their MLB club's chances. Only real lack of a return they have to offer is MLB-ready pitching, and the obvious Cohen v. Arte aspect.

Any 3-4 of Alvarez (consensus #10, 20 year old C in AAA with 19 HR, .883 OPS on season), Baty (consensus top #30, 3B/LF, AA, 22, .893 OPS, .300/13 HR) Mauricio (consensus top #100, AA SS, 16 HR, .743 OPS), Peterson (CA born 26 year old LHP with 3.54 ERA this year), Vientos (AAA 1B/3B, 22, .862 OPS, 18 HR), plus maybe a MLBer (Smith Guillorme, Davis, McNeil) would be awfully hard to not consider.

All of those guys could impact 2023 and could go a long way to locking in LF, SS, C, a rotation spot...areas we're struggling with.

Replace one of the position players with a second pitcher, and I concur.
