I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion but I... don't hate this deal at $2.5M (if that's what we're paying).

Minasian just took the job recently.  He hasn't had the opportunity to build out his team, create a long-term vision, or really even get to know the team's prospects.

What Minasian is doing is playing a long game.  Next year's FA class is absolutely stacked, with a ton of high-end starting pitching and four amazing shortstops in the prime of their careers.  All of these one year deals, plus the Pujols $30M coming off the books, is going to create a TON of flexibility for Minasian and his team to formulate and implement a plan.

I am sensitive to the fear of a decline starting for Trout, but I think our window runs another five years.  I'll reserve judgement and will rain the hate down on Minasian if we're still in this same place a year from now.  But something tells me that the 2022 Angels are going to look MUCH better.

Assuming we have baseball in 2022.

I appreciate the positivity.

But that said, in this instance, even if our cost for Fowler is 2mil or whatever ... why not just have gone after Pederson for 7mil?

If Arte is so cash-strapped that we couldn't have done that, then I would have rather saved the $$ from the Cobb trade and just given that money + the money for Fowler to Pederson, which would have added up to 7mil, and install Barria as our SP4/SP5.

This might just be my high talking but WHAT IF....

Perry is trying to find the cheapest options available because there is a big signing coming and he needs all the money available for it.

At this point it’s the only thing that makes sense.

Wow, some of you need to chill the f out. We just got a competent player to replace the glaring hole we had in RF, at a cost that doesn’t prevent more moves. This is a fine move. It might even be worth a win or two to the overall bottom line. And if Adell is any good, he will quickly take over the position from Fowler.

Guys, we may be overreacting here a bit.

Fowler is probably going to be our 4th OF. Nobody said he's going to start in RF. He could back up Trout in CF and whoever ends up being our starting RF on a occasion. He could be mostly brought in for that reason and for his clubhouse presence.

how much do you want to bet that Maddon plays him a ton?  Bets on him being our opening day leadoff hitter.

But he's awful defensively and his bat doesn't make up for it.

Yes I am 100% overreacting but like I said this is the hill I'm dying on. If he was at least a good defender I could maybe understand, but he isn't. He goes against everything Minasian talked about. "Clubhouse guy" be damned.

Maybe this move is intended to be more of a "hedge" move ..

If Adell happens to have had a huge leap in development this offseason and is actually ready to play now, then Dexter can become our 4th OF.

If Adell isn't ready, then Dexter will platoon in RF with Ward until Adell is ready.  If Adell is ready in 1-2 months, then he can step in and displace Dexter.

In that sense, perhaps it would have been harder to lure in someone like Pederson, who would have wanted to start full-time all year, regardless of whether or not Adell was ready at some point?

But today he appears to be the starting right fielder.

Yeah, no. He's not competent. At all.

Just play Ward. He can't be much worse and he doesn't cost a prospect.

Why is this Beachim guy calling him our 4th outfielder.  It sounds like he’s probably going to be their starting RF.

That’s the funny part. I’ve seen a couple people now refer to him as our 4th OF when in reality he’ll be the opening day starter in RF
