Perhaps we are effectively punting on the 2021 season.  Tanking, rebuilding with draft picks, and getting payroll relief after Pujols' contract expires.

Yeah unfortunately we all have to stop with the Pujols' contract narrative. We don't get any relief from it in 2022 when you factor in raises and arbitration.

We don't, but at least we can get more "return on value" for our money moving forward.

More importantly though, it gives Minasian a year to help rebuild the farm system, which is the most important part.  So maybe he'll trade some guys at the deadline, draft well, etc.  Minasian's reputation is that he's very good with drafting/scouting, so maybe that's where he'll make the biggest difference for us.

I think people haven't noticed how terrible Brian Goodwin was with the Reds last season. The guy had a -0.5 WAR. I'm all for hating on the trade but if your better option is Goodwin then idk....
