I like that we're not hearing much about the Angels. Always seems that when a teams every move starts leaking, they don't end up getting the guy (Mariners and Ohtani, Lakers and Kawhi etc.). Then again our moves didn't leak with the guys we didn't get too, but still.

I’d give Cole $300/9yr. Cole could care less about AAV it’s all about the total money he gets. 9 years will have his contract end when Strasburg’s does. Plus it’s better financially for the Angels I’m terms of AAV.

You know what....... I'd actually rather have Cole for 10/300 than 7/275. Who wouldn't want hamels right now for 3/ 25? It would lower the aav and if Cole reinvents himself later in his career we get a bonus

Good reason to believe Cole will still be an ace or near ace for 4-5 years. Over that, probably not, but at that point, Trout is no longer in his prime either. I think you have to do it.

So, what is your plan to compete if they pass on Cole? 

Bumgarner's road ERA in 2018-19 is a disaster. That's Weaver all over again. 

Ryu? Does he make them a contender? Ryu and Rendon? More? Something else?

Understood. My point is Arte has to keep spending after that. Push payroll to $200M-$205M and get one of Ryu/Bumgarner for $20M/yr. either than or Teheran for less. 
 

second option is to pull the trigger on trading Marsh and package for a #2 starter to slot behind Cole. 
 

Third option (least likely) is the trade Simmons and package to clear room to sign Cole/another high end starter.
