That is so damn stupid. I used to work at John Wayne airport and most of the TSA folk there seemed like pretty nice people, but there were certainly some weirdos thrown in.

It's total bullshit that this has to be dealt with.

This is the problem with TSA, and it's become a no win situation with TSA.  If you stop the fidgety, and odd people, that's profiling, and you can't do that to protect the safety of the skies.  So you have to do random searches.  Which means the number will eventually fall on kids and handicapped and retarded (seems it falls on retarded more often than not).  And that's not ok either.  And if you treat kids differently than adults, then some arab will say you are discriminating against me, by making me go through all these hoops, and you are giving the white people a pass. 

It's the shit world we live in.  No matter how idiot proof you make things.  Someone will invent a better idiot.
