Maybe Arte can collect disability insurance $ assuming he had insured his contract to offset his salary which might free up some $ to spend at the deadline.

Yeah, no way he retires.  Arte is paying him $46M over the next two years not to play for the Angels.

Wish I could get people to pay me not to work.  I'd do it for $20M.

You would think that his contract carries disability insurance ... probably does. Although, the money saved wouldn't  help in payroll towards the lux cap.

His contract isn't insured, none of the Angel contracts are.  To insure a contract against injury you pay about 50 cents on the dollar, so, it would have been a 5 year $189 million contract.

Hamilton gets paid until the contract expires. Just like Gary Matthews Jr. did. We have a great history signing former Rangers as free agents.

Hammy's 5-year, $125 million deal was supposed to be discounted to reflect the risk of signing him based on his addiction history. That was a year other MVP-type stars were commanding 8-year to 10-year deals. (We were already having some regerts (thanks Snickers) with one of those.)

Turned out the 5-year deal was about 5-years too many.

I don't believe this report.  Josh Hamilton went on record earlier this year saying it was the best his knee had felt in 5 years. There is no way he would have said that if it wasn't true.   Leave Joshie alone!!!!

General consensus at the time was that Hamilton got exactly what you would expect were he to never have taken drugs in his life.

I wonder if he really is actually getting surgery. I wouldn't put it past him to just pay off some doctor to say he needs the surgery so he doesn't have to travel with the team or go anywhere or do anything except cocaine all day long.

I said it in a thread two months ago. Josh Hamilton will never play in another MLB game ever again and he will get paid in full. He doesn't want to play anymore and the Rangers don't want him back on the field so they will help facilitate that. Since the Angels are picking up 95% the tab it's a win-win for the Rangers.
