I broke the bad news to my nine year old son who loves Aybar ... told him he was traded to Atlanta. First thing he said was 'I hope they traded him for Simmons'. I was shocked he even knew who he was ... to be honest I didn't know.

GL in Altanta you'll be missed

Aybar was the last player who was with the organization in 02 (albeit in the minor leagues) and it's very likely we'll never have another one. Puts in perspective how long ago that was now.

I really wish Erick the best of luck though. As much as he frustrated us no end at times (cough squeeze bunt cough) he was a pretty damn good player for us for a long time.

One of rhe more inderrated guys weve had over the years. People point out his mistakes, but he mostly played airtight defense, had a decent bat for his position, and made a TON of very heads up plays. He was also very well liked by his teammates

Had drinks with him a few times over the years running into him after games. Super down to earth and always friendly. Was always a fan, gonna miss having him here.

The greatest lesson he ever taught young boys and girls who love to play baseball is that you always keep the tag applied on a runner trying to take the extra base!

Thanks for always giving 100% Erick even if it resulted in some of your fans slapping their heads.... The rest of the time we were cheering your aggressive, brazen ball playing ability. I'll remember you fondly and good luck in Atlanta and the rest of your career!

One of my favorite moments of doing the AngelsWin podcast came in season one.  We were talking about Aybar's knack for making bad decisions on the base paths.  Adam busts out the line, "I guarantee you that Aybar has tried to microwave tinfoil more than once."

He was never boring to watch.

Most of it has been said already, but he will be greatly missed. In fact I think there isn't a good level of appreciation for Aybar among Angels fans.

The guy always played hard, with passion and an enthusiasm for the game. A good teammate who hardly missed any games.

Maybe it's the language thing, but he never got much press. I believe he was one of the smartest baseball people the Angels have had. As someone else said above, the guy was always into something from sliding around tags to tricking base runners to forcing the tag. A gamer like Aybar will be missed. Think Eppler undervalued him.
