The Angels are desperately in need of starting pitching, but they have little money left to spend and no impact prospects to trade, which makes it difficult for the general manager to make a deal.<br/><br/>LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — For a general manager heading into what could be his walk-the-plank year, Jerry Dipoto appears calm and assured. His contract guarantees him nothing beyond next season, and the playoffs have gone on without the Angels since 2009.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/latimes/sports/baseball/mlb/angels/~4/ZVYZLB8BnQY" height="1" width="1"/> View the full article

Rays need a 1B, Angels need some young starting pitching. If the Rays deal Price to the Mariners they're most likely going to get a couple arms back, with Taijuan Walker as the centerpiece. Walker replaces Jake Odorizzi who is currently #6 on their depth chart, but would replace Price in the rotation. Jake Odorizzi would be a solid piece at number #3 or #4, then you can sign Corey Hart to be our DH and get a Bartolo Colon, Johan Santana or Scott Baker on a one-year deal to fill out the rotation. This way you're pretty much under or barely over the luxury tax threshold. Thoughts?

Nick Piecoro â€@nickpiecoro 10h Source: Dbacks made strong push for Carlos Beltran, who is headed to Yankees. Dbacks also offered three years but were north of $45M. Jerry Crasnick â€@jcrasnick 5m #Dbacks tried to stretch their budget with Beltran, according to @nickpiecoro. It'll be interesting to see what they do now. Jerry Crasnick â€@jcrasnick 4m Kevin Towers wants a corner OF with power, but Nelson Cruz doesn't seem like a fit there for a bunch of reasons. #dbacks Jerry loves circling back to his former teams and in this case it probably would be the wise thing to do. This makes too much sense now with the Dbacks wanting a power bat who can pl…

Arizona is shopping for a power hitter and the Angels are looking for pitching, making the teams potential partners in a deal for the versatile slugger. LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Arizona Diamondbacks are in search of a power hitter, with pitching to spare. The Angels appear to be a good match, with Mark Trumbo potentially becoming a corner outfielder in Arizona. View the full article

By Greg Bearringer, AngelsWin.com Columnist - The worst part of this time of year as a baseball fan, and even more as one trying to write intelligently about it, is that the information available to us is incomplete. Even if the Angels have already made all their moves, it’s hard to criticize them because there are so many moves that could potentially still be made. It’s not a question of whether or not the organization is in a good position (it’s not in a great one), or even if the current front office has done a fantastic job of building this team for the future (the next 5-7 years for the franchise look potentially rough.) It’s a question of whether they…

If we had to give up one this week at the Winter Meetings who would it be? Who is more valuable? A trade option for each: Mark Trumbo to Arizona for Archie Bradley Howie Kendrick to Detroit for Rick Porcello What's the best option? Obviously something needs to happen this week.

to their team? Bourjos or Calhoun? I am assuming that Peter if he stays healthy will provide a higher WAR because he is a center fielder, but who will have the, I don't know how to say it, but I guess it would be WAR per salary? Will we regret moving Peter, not because of what we got in return, but because of who is going to replace him in the starting line up? I see it like this. Calhoun won't be as bad defensively this coming year, nor will Trout. We all know what Peter brings to the table defensively, he is amazing. But I just like the idea of having Calhoun batting in the top of the line up, either first or second, and that is something I wasn't comfortable say…

Things could be worse. Mariners FO doesn't come out looking good here http://seattletimes.com/html/mariners/2022420240_mariners08xml.html “Jack portrayed himself as a scouting/stats hybrid because that’s what he needed to get the job,â€ Blengino said. “But Jack never has understood one iota about statistical analysis. To this day, he evaluates hitters by homers, RBI and batting average and pitchers by wins and ERA. Statistical analysis was foreign to him. But he knew he needed it to get in the door.â€ Blengino said Zduriencik became obsessed with power hitters, ignoring defense, baserunning and roster construction. He said the GM also dismissed the …

Our crappy pitching staff lost one of our few quality pitchers: Vargas Our crappy defense lost its best defensive outfielder: Bourjos We probably improved our offense at 3b. Have we improved our defense on the infield? He added one quality relief pitcher to our blowpen. And our starting pitching depth we let walk in Williams. Is that about it????

Not that I want to do this but I bet NY would love to have him at 8mil a year and we can get some minor league guys to flip to TB for Price? I know it would take more then that. We would have to part with some aswell. Howie is one of my fav guys, He has been better just about every year he plays. The only way I would move Howie. What do u guys think?

Just starting now, and never mind how the game ends, look at who the starting pitcher is. Yep, a very young Jerome Williams Also notice how slender Cabrera is compared to now.

So is anyone willing to take our home run pitcher back? Say for 5 for 75. I stuck on it but I'm scared we don't help the SP out. We have the win now team but on the edge. If we just scratch a little more and get another #1 we are in it. I think we got have 3 guys to pitch if we get in the playoffs not 2. Right now we have what? 1-2 and maybe 3 number 5's? I feel Richards is going to do a lot better this year his stuff is a lot better then he has pitched. So any thoughts?

What kind of stats will he put up? By healthy I mean no trips to the DL and he plays 150 games, some at first, some at DH. Here's what I expect if healthy: .305 .370 30 HRs 110 RBI 95 RUNS Second question is if he is healthy and puts up those numbers are you happy? I don't want this thread to turn into a bitchfest about whether or not he can stay healthy, this is assuming he is healthy, what kind of stats will he produce.

Yes, another Trumbo thread. Hear me out: Regardless of where Trumbo is playing in 2014, it's a pretty safe bet that he will hit 30+ HRs and 100+ RBIs, barring injury. He's put up those kinds of numbers ever since he's been a full-time player. You can only say that about a handful of players in all of baseball. Yes he has a low OBP, but that makes his achievement even more amazing. Pitchers are trying not to give him good pitches to hit, yet he still finds a way to produce. He's still young and has room for improvement. Not to mention, Trumbo will finally work with a hitting coach that I think has the ability and insight to maximize his talents in Baylor. The market for…

You'll never guess who has the most trade value in MLB (he's the only Angel in the top 50) according to Jonah Keri. Trade Value Rules 1. Contracts matter. Max Scherzer is a better pitcher than Gerrit Cole, but Scherzer will be eligible for free agency at the end of next season, while Cole isn't even arbitration-eligible yet and will be under team control through 2019. 2. Age matters. Bartolo Colon and Jose Fernandez put up fairly similar numbers in 2013, but Colon is 40 and likely won't be pitching for too much longer, while Fernandez is just 21 and could very well get better. 3. It's all relative. Pretend every team started shopping every player as a trade…
