Give up Trumbo or Kendrick?

If we had to give up one this week at the Winter Meetings who would it be?  Who is more valuable?

 

A trade option for each:

 

Mark Trumbo to Arizona for Archie Bradley

 

Howie Kendrick to Detroit for Rick Porcello

 

What's the best option? Obviously something needs to happen this week.

Archie Bradley is a top 10 prospect. Trumbo isn't going to get him back. 

 

Trumbo for Miley, Cahill, or Skaggs+ more is reasonable.

I'd do Trumbo for Miley. If Detroit wouldn't do Kendrick for Fister then I don't think they would give us Porcello when they have their rotation set.

Yep, Great D and probably fewer mental lapses than Aybar. The difference in offensive production shoul d easily be absorbed by this lineup if it nets us a quality SP. I would perfer to trade Aybar over Kendrick.

If the trade market is flat and Arte is serious about not spending, it's going to be a couple of starters like Maholm (we could do worse)....otherwise, my concern is that DiPoto, with his job on the line, panics and makes another bad trade...he's already made one stinker this offseason.

The answer might be both, or one of Kendrick/Aybar (probably Kendrick) and Trumbo.

Kendrick is the most logical to move. If you can trade him for a starting pitcher, he would free up more money to sign a second arm.

It all depends in the return. Aybar has more value than Kendrick due to reality in MLB there are not too many above average SS.

Archie Bradley is about as untouchable as a prospect can get. We don't have enough to land him (without including the greatest Ayer of His generation).

If it were up to me I would go in this order, I would trade Aybar first, Trumbo second and Howie third. I would have little to no problem if they traded Aybar and Trumbo, if they replace Trumbo's offense. If we absolutely had to I would be ok trading both Aybar and Howie if it meant signing Garza and trading for young arms that could be our rotation in the next year or two. But those young arms better be good to great prospects.

Trading Trumbo for someone like Cahill would be pointless. One, that's addition by subtraction. Two, Cahill is nothing better than a league average pitcher.

 

Why not just sign someone like Maholm instead? Maholm will give you nearly the same results as Cahill. And we would get to keep Trumbo.

Seriously though, I'm all for trading Trumbo if it makes sense. Trading Trumbo for Cahill (who doesn't even have a team-friendly contract) makes no sense...especially considering there are guys available out there on the open market who can give you that kind of production...and without having to subtract pieces from the roster.
