If the Angels signed both Jiminez and Morales, would they have to give up two draft picks - or just one?

If you've read anything I've posted about trading a middle infielder you know is rather trade Aybar than Howie. Most people are against trading Howie, myself included, because of Green's defense. Would you be more prone to trade Howie if you knew he would be replaced in the everyday line up by Romine at 2nd? I just thought I would open this thought up for discussion....

By Glen McKee, AngelsWin.com Columnist/Satirist- Somewhere between the ball field in Anaheim, the production houses in Hollywood and the Winter Meeting suites in Orlando, a script was born. A script chillingly familiar. A script no one wanted you to see. What follows is an outtake from that script … “A Few Good Pitchers.â€ A Few Good Pitchers INT. ANGELS’ STADIUM - DAY SCIOSCIA I want the truth! DIPOTO You can't handle…

By Jonathan Northrop, AngelsWin.com Columnist - While I fully agree with the idea that you can't truly define a player solely based upon statistics, and that the general sense one gets from watching a player, day in and day out, is important as well, the "No Respect" thread supports the notion that we really do need statistics to go beyond mere opinion. Statistics aren't absolute, but what they are is objective and give us something beyond our likes and dislikes and subjective impressions to look at. So I'm going to try to answer the question: How good is Howard Kendrick relative to his peers, that is second basemen? Is he or does he have the potential to be, as edg…

Club needed pitching and sending the slugger to Arizona made sense, but replacing a standup guy such as Trumbo is a different story altogether. Mark Trumbo was traded Tuesday. He went from being an Angel to a Diamondback. View the full article

I've been critical of his OBP, but I've always enjoyed the things he says and his overall vibe as a human being. This bears it out further - a class act.

Havent heard anything before, but maybe Angels are back as the "undisclosed" team. not a bad low risk, high upside move. http://touch.baltimoresun.com/#section/847/article/p2p-78547390/

This was a discussion in one of the Garza threads and I thought it deserved its own thread. Assuming the Angels sign someone for the #3 spot, who do you think ends up in the starting rotation in 2014, Santiago or Skaggs? I'm sure the final decision will be determined by how they pitch in Spring Training, but it is an interesting "problem" for Sosh to have going into the season. I can see both sides of the argument: Skaggs in the rotation and Santiago in the bullpen would seem like a smart move because it gives you a #5 starter with upside and a good bullpen arm. If Skaggs lives up to his potential, this is a fantastic move. On the other side, I think…

As a catcher in the Dodgers' organization in the late 1970s and into the '80s, Mike Scioscia played on clubs that managed to win big amid untold internal strife. So the Angels' manager is of the view that clubhouse chemistry can be overrated in relation to what's found on the field. View the full article

While I can't imagine us trading three big parts of our offense, we still do match up well with the Mets considering they just signed Colon to a two year deal and Jeremy Hefner. If Aybar + Kohn/Jepsen could net us Niese, Rafael Montero, and Ruben Tejada would you do it? Imagine then signing Matt Garza. Something would have to be done about SS, but even a platoon there between Romine and Tejada would be well worth Niese and Montero IMO. Tejada is not a bad hitter against lefties (career .296/.367/.368) 1. Weaver 2. Wilson 3. Garza 4. Niese 5. Richards Skaggs Santiago Montero

I believe he was moved to 2B out of need by the A's, same with outfield. I could be wrong, but I haven't heard anything about him being a terrible defender at SS, his primary position through college and the first few years in the minors. If Aybar is to be traded for an arm, say a Jon Niese type, why not use Green at SS instead of the lite-hitting Andrew Romine? Here's a blurb by Baseball Prospectus on Grant after his promotion to the big leagues this past summer. The Call-Up Grant Green by Nick J. Faleris and Bret Sayre The Situation: The first-place Oakland Athletics have received lackluster production out of the second base position in 2013—.264/.339/.3…

Since the Angels don't have a true backup CF, I'd love for them to pick Spoon back up on a minor league contract if they can. Spoon has some pop, tons of speed and plays an incredible CF defensively. Mariners designated OF Travis Witherspoon for assignment. Seattle claimed Witherspoon off waivers from the Angels in October, but the 24-year-old has now been kicked off the 40-man roster to clear space for Corey Hart. Witherspoon struggled this summer at Double-A.

$112 million over 5 years . . . seriously!?! . . . (per ESPN) It makes it look like 1) His agent's on crack 2) Weaver's and Wilson's deals were steals . . .

so it appears Frieri, Smith, Burnett, DLR and unfortunately Blanton (hopefully just doing mop-up work in a blowout) are all part of the pen. so which of the three do you like the best and why? i'm assuming we go 7 arms in the bullpen and that these 3 are the most likely to be part of the final 25 roster.

Both are risks. One is injury prone. One is 41. Both are lefties. Of the two, I think Chavez could be had for less money than Ibanez. We don't have much depth at 3B. If we have to play Romine or Jimenez there, we would be back to a huge dropoff in production for the lineup in that spot. And, if we have to play Calhoun at 1B, we have to play Shuck back in the OF. Given all of that, I could easily see the Angels going back and signing Chavez to backup both corner infield spots and get an occasional DH start. What do you guys think?

By David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer As an Angels fan, I am very pleased with the 3-way trade that the Angels made involving the Diamondbacks and White Sox. The Angels needed to get younger, better, controllable pitching and got back in value as much (or more) than what they gave up. As a parent, though, this trade presented a tough problem for me. Mark Trumbo was one of my sons’ favorite players. They loved his mammoth homeruns and would emulate his swing whenever he went to the plate. They loved yelling Trumbomb whenever he hit one out of the park. For my eldest, this would be even more difficult. Mark Trumbo gave him his very first autograph. Prior to the…

The Angels add a third pitcher in three days, getting 25-year-old Brian Moran, who was 2-5 with a 3.45 earned-run average in the minors last season. LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Angels acquired another pitcher on the final day of baseball's winter meetings, but not the veteran starter they would like to add to their rotation.
