There are certain players, like C.J. Wilson, who I hated before their Angel tenure but started liking them when they joined the Angels. There are others, though, who I don't think I could ever tolerate, even in Angel red, such as A.J. Pierzynski, A-Rod, and Dustin Pedroia. Who are some of yours? In before Pujols and Hamilton are mentioned.

Was just non-tendered. Wouldn't mind giving him a chance. I'd actually be thrilled if we signed him as a 5. What do you guys think?

The Angels trim almost $10 million from next season's payroll after passing on Williams, Tommy Hanson, Juan Gutierrez and Chris Nelson. The Angels declined to extend 2014 contracts to pitchers Jerome Williams, Tommy Hanson and Juan Gutierrez and third baseman Chris Nelson on Monday, moves that trim almost $10 million from next season's payroll and give the team more flexibility to pursue higher quality starting pitchers via trade or free agency. @Ken_Rosenthal1h #Athletics not optimistic about keeping Colon. Exploring other options, as they did when they pursued Hudson, who went to #SFGiants instead. Could the Angels be on the verge of signing the 40 year old right hander?

Who? Seriously, I was looking up some stats on som other guys and found this dude tucked away on the Brewers roster Doesn't throw hard by any stretch, but misses bats, and doesn't walk guys. 30yo in his second year of arb. That Kendrick for Lee and Withrow deal looks awfully good right now. This could be the one (non) move that ruins the offseason. So thanks again, for committing your 3rd huge mistake in the last 2 years. Stay out of it. Not that I trust Dipoto much more but Arte needs to back way off. If Williams or Blanton are anywhere near the #5 spot in the rotation I'm going to puke.

Here are some of my notes from today's press conference with Joe Smith and Jerry Dipoto: Joe Smith is happy to be here. His girlfriend works out here. The biggest factor for him signing with the Angels was the inclusion of a third year and the chance to play near his girlfriend. Jerry Dipoto targeted him early and made an early offer. Other teams were interested, but the Angels were made solid offers early on that made the decision easier. For Dipoto, getting Smith, who throws side-arm was an important factor to give the bullpen a different look. Smith throws 89-92, which Dipoto believes will pair up well with the young power arms in the pen. Dipoto is not…

With two starting pitchers still needed, and a payroll that's already dangerously close to the luxury-tax threshold, Monday's non-tender deadline is far more than a formality for the Angels. It's an opportunity to add about $10 million to their budget. View the full article

Streaky hitter but when he's on he's on. He's got some pop and his contract is extremely reasonable. I understand you gotta give up value to get something of value back but I think Kendrick's play would be sorely missed. Maybe the Angels should just tender Jerome and run Hanson and Blanton out there. If not for the slow start the Angels would've been a contender for a wc spot and then anything is possible.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/angels-will-tender-contract-to-kevin-jepsen.html On today's conference call to introduce free agent signee Joe Smith, Angels GM Jerry Dipoto told reporters, including MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez, that right-hander Kevin Jepsen will be tendered a contract for the 2014 season (Twitter link). Dipoto said he "[n]ever thought it would be an assumption he wouldn't be (tendered)."

Holy smokes, watching these average (at best) SP rake it in really bumps his price up. Hope you have a backup plan JD. Blanton and Jerome will not be part of a playoff rotation. They will have a nice game here and there but overall kill the bullpen when they get routinely shelled by the 5th inning. Last year Blanton had 9/20 starts not go more than 5 innings and Jerome had a stretch of 5 starts where he pitched a total of 18 innings. (I like Jerome, but as a swing guy for insurance, not a consistent starter.)

At least what I am guessing what it is. I believe they are going "all in" on Tanaka (think that is his spelling). I believe Dipoto has tested the market; however, the other teams know we are desperate for pitching so they are trying to low ball on everyone. It worked for the Bourjos-Grichulk/Freese trade. However, Bourjos was expendable because of our glut of outfielders. Right now trading anyone else would weaken the team greatly. By pursuing Tanaka, the Angels will get a mid to top of the order pitcher who would be young and under club control. He is more desirable than current free agent because of his age. By winning the Tanaka sweepstakes, the Angels woul…

Hypothetically, of course, as it seems less likely now that Bourjos is gone. Is it a rotation of different players - Conger, Hamilton, Pujols, and Calhoun? Or would the Angels hope that Cron could help sooner than later?

December 2nd is the Tender deadline. We should get a clearer view of who's staying and who's not going to be tendered by this date. Already, the Pirates and the Padres seem to be busy trading players that they otherwise wouldn't tender. For the Angels, these seem to be non tender candidates. Hanson $3.9 million Williams $3.9 million Jepsen $1.4 million Gutierrez $1.1 million Nelson $1 million Total $11.3 million I still think Williams is going to be kept, because he can start in an emergency, and his relief numbers were pretty good last year. IMO, Williams has more problems when it's the second/third time through the order. Which for a reliever i…

Saw these tidbits on MLBTradeRumors. Cafardo On Samardzija, Price, Kemp, Pierzynski Sounds like they are asking for the moon. For the Angels, I don't even thing a Callhoun, Cron, Lindsey, Moronde would get them to the table. If that's the case for Kemp, shouldn't the Angels at least see if there is interest in Hamilton? Hamilton has 4/$98 left on his contract. If the market is opening up for Kemp at 6/$80-90 which is $13-$15 a year, why not Hamilton at $15 a year? 2013 Kemp .270/.328/.395/.723/0.5 WAR Hamilton .250/.307/.432/.739/1.5 WAR Career Kemp .293/.350/.493//843 Hamilton .295/.354/.530/.884 Kemp 3 years removed from a high …
