**** EDIT ***** Moron trade idea by me, since Dbacks would not do this deal... oh well Dbacks loaded with pitching, short on power hitters both teams would be dealing from a position of strength Not sure if either team would accept the deal - Corbin does not have a long tack record

Kole Calhoun 1 2 3

The Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels intend to use Kole Calhoun as their starting right fielder heading into the 2014 season. General manager Jerry Dipoto told the Times, "For [Calhoun] to improve, he has to get the opportunity to play, and we see a good opportunity for him on this field." I don't think Shuck is going to get many starts guys. I had a chat with Dipoto this past spring and he was extremely high on Calhoun at that time. Calhoun has also made a big impression on Mike Scioscia. I think Sosh sees Shuck as our 2014 version of Orlando Palmeiro. He's only going to start if there's an injury!

Couple questions: A) Do you not care about a farm system? B ) Why do you like David Freese statistically speaking? C) Where do you think we are going to fill the 2-3 holes in the rotation? D) Did you think our defense was good last year? As I tweeted a little earlier: Text from a family member of an Angel: "He [Dipoto] is so bad. We give no young players a chance." I am rooting for Freese and Salas, but this smells Wellsian. Grichuk isn't a throw-in.

Here's mine... Sign one more bullpen arm, a southpaw, one of Mujica or Howell. How about Eric Aybar and Zach Borenstein for Daniel Murphy and Rafael Montero. Murphy is our 2B and Yarbrough becomes our replacement for Murphy down the road. The Mets have Wilmer Flores for 2B and are said to be shopping Murphy. Then trade Howie Kendrick and Mark Sappington for Chris Tillman. Brian Roberts or Alexi Casilla are not the answer and Roberts can't stay healthy. The O's have a pretty deep rotation as far as depth. The O's need to keep pace with everyone else in the AL East. Sign Bartolo Colon for a 2-year deal with an option for year #3. This takes the A's best pitcher away fro…

Ok, so this is one of my frequently discussed moves, I think the Blue Jays are the perfect fit for a Kendrick trade. It's been discussed a lot in the media, like at mlbtraderumors. Here is a proposed trade for Kendrick and Iannetta from a Jays fan at Jaysjournal. http://jaysjournal.com/2013/11/21/blue-jays-angels-need-make-trade/ His trade is Kendrick, Iannetta for JA Happ, Casey Jannsen and minor league pitching prospect Sean Nolin. Now we'd like to have Aaron Sanchez instead of Nolin, but the writer of this article is right, that's a big piece to give up. I think this leans a little too Jays. I've proposed trades like this getting Buerhle or RA Dickey b…

Probably hurts Trumbo's trade value. Similar guys. That said, might not be a bad guy for the Angels to acquire if they do trade Trumbo.

that's something Mike Scioscia has said repeatedly over the years, and I tend to agree. There's all this talk right now of adding 2 more SP, one via trade, one via FA. What am I missing? We have 3 viable SP right now - Weaver, Wilson, and Richards. And that's counting on a rookie who has never been in a rotation for a complete season. I don't think Blanton, Hanson, or Williams qualify personally, and if they're supposed to, well I think we're in trouble. We'll see what Dipoto does, but if indeed he only adds 2 more SP, certainly feels to me like we're repeating the exact same mistake of last year.

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer - Disclaimer: This trade discussion is purely speculative in nature and presents an unlikely example of how the Angels can improve their roster for 2014. FanGraphs WAR stat is used to help evaluate player value, but it is merely a useful guide for this analysis. This series of articles are meant to entertain, generate discussion and to show that there are multiple avenues to improve the team! Teams Involved: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Cincinnati Reds Team Needs: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim – With the recent acquisition of 3B David Freese and RP Joe Smith the Angels main focus is starting pitching. For the sake of a very lite topic, what numbers do you think Freese and Baylor will end up with? Will Butcher give up 23 for Freese? Will Baylor take Peter's 25?

Didn't see this anywhere yet, sorry if a dupe. This is a depressing read to start a Sunday morning: Cardinals, Angels, and Trying to Get Better On the surface, the trade that sent Peter Bourjos and Randal Grichuk to the Cardinals and David Freese and Fernando Salas to the Angels looks like two teams trying to turn areas of depth into players that can fill holes in areas of weakness. At the trade’s most basic level, that is certainly the case but it also reflects the serious differences between the two organizations and how they have approached the last several seasons. My brother says we are in on both. I don't see it happening without making trades and if we are making trades than why aren't we trading for pitching. Has anyone heard anything about the Angels signing both Colon and Arroyo?

Club and free-agent pitcher agree to a $10-million, one-year deal pending a physical examination.

The Dodgers are close to signing former All-Star Dan Haren, who could add depth to the battered back end of their rotation. View the full article

Just wanted to say thanks. Been an Angel fan since the day I was born and moved to Texas about 6yrs ago. It's nice to come to a place and talk Angel baseball good, bad or ugly. I like reading everyone's posts and I'm confident we will make the moves required to stick it to Tejas and bring the west title back to where it belongs in Southern California.

By Greg Bearringer, AngelsWin.com Columnist - 1) David Freese might as well wear a sign that says "average third baseman" around his neck, because I think that's probably what the Angels are expecting out of him next season. He is probably better that (since he has pretty good plate discipline), but a back injury might just eat into his playing time over the next two seasons. Barring that, "average" marks a huge upgrade for the Angels at the hot corner, and makes a fine bridge to Kaleb Cowart. 2) That being said (and I am going to parrot Keith Law ($) here somewhat), I'd probably rather have three seasons of Peter Bourjos than two of Freese, but its not a huge dif…

is that io read article like Gammons review of the Cardinals, and with the addition of Borjous they supposedly look pretty strong, yet when we had him we didnt seem to have anything special? Im not if that speaks to a lack of confidence in our staff from the baseball community or what, but it sure seems funny that they were considered lesser players when they were here. cant seem to edit typos in title... sorry

This is what I see shaping up now that we are 1 trade piece down and the rotation still not helped. First of all, Williams and Hanson will be non-tendered. I think we will have to trade Trumbo + others for a 3, then look to sign 2-3 starters to minor league deals w/ incentives to compete with Blanton. Teams who could be interested in a Trumbo centered package : Orioles: Miguel Gonzalez Brewers: Yovani Gallardo Diamondbacks: Trevor Cahill/ Wade Miley Mets: Niese Rays: Hellickson/ Odorozzi Rockies: Chacin As for the 5 spot, I would sign 2-3 of the following to a minor league deal+ incentives: Scott Baker Roberto Hernandez Jair Jurrjens Jeff Karstens …

This is from an Associated Press story: CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Baseball fans should expect to go through a metal detector to see their favorite team play in 2014. Major League Baseball security director John Skinner said on Friday that all 30 teams are expected to screen all fans entering their ballparks next season. Some aspects of the screening will be left to individual teams, but the commissioner's office is planning to recommend walk-through metal detectors, he said. I hate to see this, and wonder whether it will result in the Angels/city closing some gates in order to avoid the expense of installing the detectors. But we already walk through the detectors …

Brian McCann On Verge Of Deal With YankeesBy Zach Links [November 23 at 4:13pm CST] Brian McCann is on the verge of a long-term deal with the Yankees, two sources tell Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. McCann’s agent, BB Abbott, told Grant that he could not confirm that his client had agreed to terms with any team. McCann, soon-to-be 30, was also said to be on the radar for the Red Sox and Rangers this offseason. The veteran hit .256/.336/.461 in 102 games for the Braves last season and has been widely regarded as this winter's top free agent catcher over Boston's Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Mark Trumbo @Mtrumbo441h @keithlaw @Joe_TOC I know how big a fan of mine you are Keith. I got your back the next time Space Mountain denies you due to height limits. That HAS to count as a TRUMBOMB.... Honestly, seeing that made everything else about today fade away.
