I can't name the player Colorado is pursuing from our side or the players we'd get in return, but my source says they're going hard after this one significant player on our team and there's a chance it could get done. Wish I could tell you more, trust me, but I gave you a bone at least. Stay tuned....

The Founding of the L.A. Angels-1961 By Rob Goldman, AngelsWin.com Historical Writer - Gene Autry, a crooner of prairie melodies and star of 1930s and ’40s Hollywood Westerns switched horses in mid-stream to enter the lucrative field of TV and radio. By the 1960s, Autry—recognized for his famed white cowboy hat—owned dozens of radio stations up and down the California coast. He called his radio group Golden West, and his flagship station, KMPC, carried the play-by-play for the Dodgers when they relocated to Los Angeles in 1958. Autry was a frustrated, onetime semi-pro shortstop from Tioga, Oklahoma who moved to the Midwest—guitar in hand—and befriended m…

Twins are looking for a catcher. They have some good prospects they may be willing to deal instead of throwing money at Saltamacchia or another free agent option. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/mlb/rumors/post?id=9761 Twins #3 Prospect Pitcher Alex Meyer is probably the best fit for the Angels, but I don't think Iannetta pulls that. Possibly Conger would, but I'd rather move Iannetta. Perhaps the Angels can include something else in this deal to get it done. More likely is Twins #6 Prospect: Trevor May. Struggled a bit in AA last year. I'd insist on getting a younger lower-level prospect in addition to May. I'd take Andrew Albers back if they'd deal him, …

The Orioles may not bring back oft-injured Brian Roberts, maybe they'd be interested in Kendrick over a free agent option? http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/mlb/rumors/post?id=9747 For those who want Dylan Bundy in return, not likely to happen. But looking at their prospects, #6 Prospect Mike Wright fits the Angels needs. Good year in AA, and is 23 so he should be ready for major league action soon. I also like their #2 prospect, Eduardo Rodriguez, but I'd think they'd be less inclined to deal him. On their major league side, Chris Tillman is obviously appealing, as is former Angels farmhand Miguel Gonzalez. I'd take Gonzalez and Wright for Kendrick. Wou…

My newest article with MWAH touches on an arbitrary number and our team's relationship with it. It's actually a bit more interesting than it sounds. Give it a read. http://www.monkeywithahalo.com/2013-articles/november/kole-calhoun-david-freese-and-the-magic-340.html

There are signs emanating from both the Dodgers and Angels that the free-spending ways of the past few years will not be matched this time around. The focus appears to have shifted to filling holes rather than dominating the headlines and airwaves with superstar free-agent additions. View the full article

Think about it: chances are he won't be able to pull off the trade he needs to strengthen the rotation or, at best, he'll bring in a #3-4 type, but not the #2-3 type that is needed to slot behind Weaver and Wilson. Masahiro Tanaka is probably the most attractive option, especially because he's got the most upside (a #2 starter), but also because he won't cost a draft pick - unlike Garza, Nolasco, Kuroda, and I think Arroyo and Colon, but am not sure. Matt Garza is pretty much the definition of a #3 starter, consistently with an ERA in the high 3.00s, ranging from 3.32 to 3.91 in each of the last six years, although his second best is 3.69 so he should be expected …

**** EDIT ***** Moron trade idea by me, since Dbacks would not do this deal... oh well Dbacks loaded with pitching, short on power hitters both teams would be dealing from a position of strength Not sure if either team would accept the deal - Corbin does not have a long tack record

Kole Calhoun 1 2 3
by Chuck- 62 replies

The Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels intend to use Kole Calhoun as their starting right fielder heading into the 2014 season. General manager Jerry Dipoto told the Times, "For [Calhoun] to improve, he has to get the opportunity to play, and we see a good opportunity for him on this field." I don't think Shuck is going to get many starts guys. I had a chat with Dipoto this past spring and he was extremely high on Calhoun at that time. Calhoun has also made a big impression on Mike Scioscia. I think Sosh sees Shuck as our 2014 version of Orlando Palmeiro. He's only going to start if there's an injury!

Couple questions: A) Do you not care about a farm system? B ) Why do you like David Freese statistically speaking? C) Where do you think we are going to fill the 2-3 holes in the rotation? D) Did you think our defense was good last year? As I tweeted a little earlier: Text from a family member of an Angel: "He [Dipoto] is so bad. We give no young players a chance." I am rooting for Freese and Salas, but this smells Wellsian. Grichuk isn't a throw-in.

Here's mine... Sign one more bullpen arm, a southpaw, one of Mujica or Howell. How about Eric Aybar and Zach Borenstein for Daniel Murphy and Rafael Montero. Murphy is our 2B and Yarbrough becomes our replacement for Murphy down the road. The Mets have Wilmer Flores for 2B and are said to be shopping Murphy. Then trade Howie Kendrick and Mark Sappington for Chris Tillman. Brian Roberts or Alexi Casilla are not the answer and Roberts can't stay healthy. The O's have a pretty deep rotation as far as depth. The O's need to keep pace with everyone else in the AL East. Sign Bartolo Colon for a 2-year deal with an option for year #3. This takes the A's best pitcher away fro…

Ok, so this is one of my frequently discussed moves, I think the Blue Jays are the perfect fit for a Kendrick trade. It's been discussed a lot in the media, like at mlbtraderumors. Here is a proposed trade for Kendrick and Iannetta from a Jays fan at Jaysjournal. http://jaysjournal.com/2013/11/21/blue-jays-angels-need-make-trade/ His trade is Kendrick, Iannetta for JA Happ, Casey Jannsen and minor league pitching prospect Sean Nolin. Now we'd like to have Aaron Sanchez instead of Nolin, but the writer of this article is right, that's a big piece to give up. I think this leans a little too Jays. I've proposed trades like this getting Buerhle or RA Dickey b…

Probably hurts Trumbo's trade value. Similar guys. That said, might not be a bad guy for the Angels to acquire if they do trade Trumbo.

that's something Mike Scioscia has said repeatedly over the years, and I tend to agree. There's all this talk right now of adding 2 more SP, one via trade, one via FA. What am I missing? We have 3 viable SP right now - Weaver, Wilson, and Richards. And that's counting on a rookie who has never been in a rotation for a complete season. I don't think Blanton, Hanson, or Williams qualify personally, and if they're supposed to, well I think we're in trouble. We'll see what Dipoto does, but if indeed he only adds 2 more SP, certainly feels to me like we're repeating the exact same mistake of last year.

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer - Disclaimer: This trade discussion is purely speculative in nature and presents an unlikely example of how the Angels can improve their roster for 2014. FanGraphs WAR stat is used to help evaluate player value, but it is merely a useful guide for this analysis. This series of articles are meant to entertain, generate discussion and to show that there are multiple avenues to improve the team! Teams Involved: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Cincinnati Reds Team Needs: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim – With the recent acquisition of 3B David Freese and RP Joe Smith the Angels main focus is starting pitching. Although …

For the sake of a very lite topic, what numbers do you think Freese and Baylor will end up with? Will Butcher give up 23 for Freese? Will Baylor take Peter's 25?
