LA Times: Angels' Jerry Dipoto is limited in attempt to improve team

You guys are missing the worst news of that report. Its the fact that it looks like the Angels are not going to offer Trout an extension until after he hits arbitration. That means the Angels are giving up most of their leverage in efforts to re-sign Mike Trout.

If we are as bad off as the article says we are than we should:

1. Trade both Kendrick and Aybar:

2. Take the money saved from both and what is left over and extend Trout now.

3. Go with the shitty pitching that we have and suffer for a couple of years

4. Than possibly as Wells and Hamilton are off the books try to build a winner!

WE ARE REALLY F'D UP IF WE BELIEVE THAT ARTICLE.

I truly believe that the Angels will keep Trout, as long as Trout wants to stay. Arte has proven to spend money for franchise players, he just picked wrong (so far) with the last signing.

Weaver was a no brainer, being an in house pitcher.

That leaves Wilson, Pujols, and Hamilton.    Now, Arte Moreno needs to not rest on Weaver, Wilson, and 3 days of wishin.

And he needs to not allow any more key pitching prospects to be traded, and join just about every other MLB team in the 2010s.

Nice to see the Vernon $ continue to reign as the go-to Red Herring. Seems the real issues should be the allocation of prospects with nothing remaining to show for it (Greinke, Haren, even Kazmir), bad signings (GMJr, Blanton), and the original misses on Crawford/Beltre that led to Vernon in the first place that should be the bigger complaints (still).

Yes, all the other mistakes combined do out weight the Vernon Wells disaster...

That isn't what it said. It said they had already discussed it but they need to wait until during the season at the

It said they had preliminary discussion but there isnt much incentive for moreno to offer the extension until next year when wells and blanton are off the books. That is when he hits arbitration. quote]

This is why I wanted every Angel not named Trout or Weaver traded at the deadline this year. They would have gotten young talent and could have then afforded to lose their draft picks and singed the top FA in the offseason. Because they didn't do that, they are in this position.  It was very clear that they were not making the playoffs so Kendrick, Aybar, Trumbo etc should have been traded.
