I'm seeing a lot of people here suggest that Santiago will hold down the No. 5 spot while Skaggs starts in AAA if the Angels sign/acquire another starting pitcher. I have heard nothing that indicates Dipoto sees Skaggs as anything but a definitive part of his 2014 rotation. If anything, Skaggs is in and Santiago is the potential swing man.

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer - Today the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim traded 1B/OF Mark Trumbo and RHP A.J. Schugel to the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of a 3-way trade that sent OF Adam Eaton to the Chicago White Sox, LHP Hector Santiago and LHP Tyler Skaggs to the Angels, via the White Sox and Diamondbacks, respectively, and a PTBNL from the White Sox to the Diamondbacks. Jerry Dipoto’s goal was to add young, controllable starting pitching and with this trade he has accomplished that task. There may be more to do yet but this trade can be viewed as nothing short of a complete win for the Angels front office. Let me explain why from a prospect …

By Dave Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer - Twitterpation [twi-ter-pey-shuh-n]—noun 1. The senseless act of incessantly refreshing one’s Twitter account expected updated news on some event until the battery on one’s cell phone is completely drained. 2. A severe and damaging mental disease that causes the condition above that can also cause nerve damage to the thumb and fingers. Used in a sentence Dave’s severe twitterpation led to the car crash creating a 4-hour delay on the I-5. Admit it. You’ve got it. It’s like an itch you can’t stop scratching; your skin is raw and bloody and yet you still scratch at the scabs. You’ve got twitterpation…

Post what you got here on these two, as it's tough to go through that entire Trumbo Chatter thread. From Rotoworld: Angels acquired LHP Hector Santiago and LHP Tyler Skaggs in a three-team trade with the White Sox and Diamondbacks. It's a much-needed influx of talented young pitching for the Angels, who had one of the worst staffs in the major leagues in 2013. Santiago, who turns 26 years old later this month, posted a promising 3.56 ERA and 137/72 K/BB ratio across 149 innings this past season for Chicago. Those numbers have the potential to get better in Anaheim -- a much more pitcher-friendly environment. Angels acquired LHP Tyler Skaggs and LHP Hecto…

By Greg Bearringer, AngelsWin.com Columnist - The narrative for this trade has been written out since the Angels once again dug themselves a huge hole they couldn't dig themselves out of early in the season-- and Joe Blanton was a target for a lot of it, since he symbolized the #1 problem for the Angels: starting pitching. You know, already, the position the Angels found themselves in heading into the Winter meetings: two starters needed; $15 Million or so to spend; Mark Trumbo and Howie Kendrick as the two top trade pieces. So How did they do? Lets look at the trade: Angels: Trade: Mark Trumbo, 2 Players to be named later (Diamondbacks) Receive: Hector Santi…

Everyone seems to both like and hate it at the same time and even the talking heads are talking out the side of whatever they talk out of on both sides of the coin. Like or hate the trade, it seems balanced and fair to all with us having possibly the best long term results if the arms live up to the hype.

I really hope he re-signs with the Reds or lands in Boston or Detroit. Really don't want to see this guy in the AL West. He kills us. The Mariners and Rangers are said to be interested in him, as is Boston and Detroit. He'd have to take a pay cut to remain in Cincy I hear.

By trading away Mark Trumbo, the Angels gained two young, controllable left-handed starters while clearing about $4 million in payroll. Now they can really hit the free-agent market. View the full article

Who hits fifth? 1 2

As the Angels go into 2014, after trading Bourjos and Trumbo one wonders what the lineup will look like most days. If Calhoun is going to get the right field job, then I'd think he's a perfect candidate to hit first or second. My preference is to see Trout hit first and a healthy Pujols hit 3rd. Calhoun then is the number 2 hitter. I'd love to see Hamilton fourth, cuz then it's Righty-Lefty-Righty-Lefty. So who hits fifth? Kendrick and Freese are the likely candidates to hit fifth and sixth. If they add a DH, he'd be a candidate too…followed by Aybar and Conger/Iannetta eighth and ninth. If Trout hits third, followed by Hamilton, then Pujols the questio…

Grant Green or Lucho & Nick Maronde (from Florida) for Logan Morrison. He can play 1B, OF and be our primary DH. I think a change of scenery will do him some good. Good OBP, hits lefties and hits from the left side which the Angels are looking for. I hear Miami really wants to dump this guy. They already signed Garrett Jones to be their 1B and have no spots for him in the OF. Thoughts?

I went this morning and not really surprising, but there were a lot of very good seats available. I saw two directly behind home plate in the Diamond Club in the second row on the aisle. There were a ton in the best sections of the terrace levels. I was able to get two in section 225 on the aisle. Not sure what it will look like for the days ahead, but today was pretty good. I could have easily upgraded to some of the very best seats in the house. One more thing, the old press box is being turned into something they are calling The Terrace Suites. It will be 90 seats sold in ten game packages in groups of two seats. The cost will be $4500 for the first row, $3900 …

If Trumbo is traded, we have minor league / young options in CJ Cron & Grant Green. Yet if they want a major league DH type here are a few names I'd be for and a few names I'd be against. Lefties: 1) Logan Morrison, Marlins. Never really put it together, but could be cheap left handed power off the bench to compliment Cron or Green. Won't cost much in trade or in salary. He's a type that could break out given the right surroundings, like Loney did last year. 2) Raul Ibanez, FA. Another Lefty that is very old, in baseball terms, but still hit a ton last year. Will have other suitors. 3) Eric Chavez, FA. Lefty can fill in for Freese and at 1st, and also DH…

Shipping the slugger to Arizona for two pitchers in a three-team deal could be a stroke of genius by General Manager Jerry Dipoto, or it could cost him his job. LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Jerry Dipoto turned Mark Trumbo into three arms and a bat. That is the work of a magician. View the full article

Curious how does the trumbo trade save money to sign a fa bat and arm? Maybe I missed something but isn't Trumbo either 1st year arbitration or less. I don't know much about it?

Suk Min Yoon. 27-year-old from Korea who is likely to sign with a MLB team this offseason. His stuff, as you can see, is quite extraordinary. His FB is 91-93, good movement. Plus changeup and decent slurve. Downfalls: Might be better in relief, coming off a shoulder injury. If he gets a 3/15-20M deal, I have no idea why the Angels should not jump on it. The potential is far greater than the contract he is going to get. Korean Phil Hughes, with a higher ceiling.

How about offer Trumbo for Cahill and Skaggs? The Diamondbacks are said to be shopping Cahill whose salary is jumping to 8 million dollars this next season. I think Cahill, Skaggs and Richards would give us a younger rotation, and a solid three after Weaver/Wilson. Trumbo could play RF for the Diamondbacks and replace the power they lost after dealing Justin Upton. Thoughts? According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the A's and Diamondbacks discussed a Yoenis Cespedes trade. The return package for Oakland would have included pitcher Tyler Skaggs and outfielder A.J. Pollock, but the two sides couldn't agree to the other elements of the deal and it has now been call…

If Conger gets a shot at splitting the DH spot with Green, they'd need to add a third catcher. Any thoughts on a possible C who can play really good defense?

1. Weaver 2. Wilson 3. Santiago 5. Richards 5. Skaggs We actually have a rotation now. However, we need someone like Garza who is proven. Any ideas on who the hitter we will go after will be?

Improve starting pitching...CHECK Improve bullpen...CHECK Improve 3rd base situation...CHECK I'll admit I've been impatient, but Mr. Dipoto is getting it done. What's next on the list of things to help this club return to the playoffs?
