Mariners sign Cano to 10yr/$240 mill deal

Robinson Cano is never going to sign with Seattle. Jay Z created this entire scenario to bluff the Yankees into playing millions more and it blew up in his face because Jay Z horribly miscalculated how it would play out. Turns out the Mariners were serious, believed they sincerely had a shot at signing Cano, and made an outrageous offer. Backed against the wall Jay Z and Cano now have two choices: take the Mariners money and play in Seattle or go back to the Yankees with their tails between their legs and take Cashman's lower offer.

I don't feel bad for the Mariners because they were naive to believe Cano was serious about playing there. What is sad about all of this is Scott Boras and the Yankees end up the winners.

I think Cano cares more about money than he does about playing for the Yankees. You would think he would have accepted their 7/168 offer if staying with them were his biggest concern. The word is that he wanted 10 years from the Mariners and they balked.

If you care about winning, you take the Yanks offer. If all you care about is $$$ you go to the M's. I think the M's know they have an outside chance and will have to grossly overpay to pry him from the Yanks.

You may be right, but it is still playing out.

Come on Arte, step up and offer Cano ten years, $100 million.

I am not sure what he cares more about but just accepting the first offer makes little sense especially when the team you play for, the Yanks, is involved in the talks.

Oh btw, this deal now puts another 2B on the market available for trade. With Cano in town, Nick Franklin is now likely being shopped, so now the Halos have to deal with that. Franklin younger and cheaper as well so probably more enticing to teams

oh ya, fun.
