Angels fire Mickey Callaway, placed on MLB Ineligible List through 2022

Full quote from Minasian via MLB.com:

On the current investigation regarding pitching coach Mickey Callaway:

"From a timeframe standpoint, I have no idea. I can't comment on obviously what's going on. But as far as the current situation, we have backup plans that we've discussed. We just have to see where it goes over the next couple days.”

It's interesting that he said he had "no idea" about a timeframe but then said "we just have to see where it goes over the next couple days." It seems like he gave away at the end that it should be wrapped up in a couple days.

Probably trying to resolve it one way or the other before spring training starts next week.

Definitely hurts the Angels if he's fired. Again, hopefully this is repairable, but simply from a PR standpoint, the Angels will be pressured into firing him even if he didn't break any laws.

Just more of a scummy perv than anything.

I think if he broke laws he would probably have been arrested instead of investigated by MLB.

For the Angels I think the question is how to get rid of him without paying him.

Honest question. Hoping someone with a little more coaching knowledge can answer this...

If Callaway is fired, who is available to become pitching coach that would do an incredible job?

Image result for if you can dodge a wrench gif

He likes to have his pitchers throw inside and move guys off the plate.

There are good pitching coach candidates out there, but the biggest issue for the Angels is timing. A lot of the good pitching coach candidates are assistant pitching coaches, bullpen coaches, or minor league pitching coordinators for other teams and those teams aren't going to want to lose those people a week before ST starts.

The Angels would need permission to interview and hire someone who is currently employed by another team, and they just may not get that permission right now.

So that leaves them looking at either unemployed pitching coaches or internal promotions/stop gaps until next offseason.
