If this doesn’t make him consider retirement, then he’s playing out the rest of his contract for sure. But he’s narcissistic enough to think that him “gritting it out” is helping the team.

Why would it make him consider retirement? Recovery time for arthroscopic knee surgery is 4 to 6 weeks. It's not like it's that major of a surgery.

Guys body just can’t do it anymore

We'll just be treated to the usual "best shape of his life," "pain-free for the first time in years," etc shit that they trot out every spring.

Because it’s another piece of evidence in a long list that shows that he is never ever going to be fully healthy again. At some point you have to hope he’s going to see that and want to negotiate a buyout so he doesn’t have to put himself through it. But probably not with him. There is no coming back healthy next year, his base that used to be powerful is now completely destroyed. I actually really think a lot of the decline is simply health related and nothing more. I get why he doesn’t want to give up the money but the Angels need to sit down with him and discuss the constant injuries and what it means for him over the next 3 years. When you hear Sosh saying for the 2nd straight year he was in pain the whole season, you have to wonder what the point even is

27 Million for a below .250 hitter. HEY ALBERT! Play one more season (so you can play in St. Louis...where they ACTUALLY LIKE YOU)....then hang them up. In fact....tell Arte you'll take $10 million next season...free up some dough to sign Bryce...

Wow.  I shocked that this coincidentally happened a couple days before Sept. callups.

If this means more time for Marte then SMH.

This is roster management people.

Remember the time Albert had surgery in dec instead of at the end of the season?  Now people want him to have it during the year so he's out longer.

Big Mike Napoli had a better OPS than Pujols from 2012-2016.

Imagine what hat could have been if Sosh did not trade Napoli and Frosty Tips Rivera for Too Blessed to Be Stressed. Napoli could have the everyday 1B. No need to sign Pujols. No assuming $105 million bad contract of Vernon’s. And a boat load of cash to spend or squander on other free agents at the time.

Wells, Pujols, and Hamilton were 3 catastrophes that have haunted us all decade.

Dipoto and Reagins ignoring the farm system was the icing on the shit cake

Hoping (naivly) that this is a wake up call for him, and more importantly, the org.

Replace him this year. If he takes up a roster spot as a bench guy, meh...thats still better than the alternative.

That may sound overboard, being that his injury is pretty common. But its one ingredient in the shit stew. Push the bowl away.

I like how he’s been “playing through it” like why ? We’ve been 10 + out for more then a month.  He’s not helpful at all doing that.  And if the Angels knew, which apparently they did.  That’s concerning as shit.  That’s Mets dumb.

im sure he’ll be back in the best shape of his life for the 5000th time this spring.
