Those two go together well. They also have pretty similar lines this year: Simmons is .288/.340/.448/.787 with 19 SB, Phillips is .276/.320/.421/.742 with 10 SB. So...kinda like a poor man's Simmons (this year). Considering the fact that Simmons has one of the highest WAR in baseball and SHOULD get some MVP votes (if the world has any justice), that's not a bad thing.

I would think whatever the Angels give up, it won't be much as Phillips is just signed through this year. It could be Cowart, or a fringe prospect.

Yep. Not too many more chances for the 36-year old Mr. Phillips to get some postseason glory.

Seriously, this team could go places with the upgrades that are in the works.

Except Phillips isn't really a star, more of a quality regular, and Upton is probably more of a Torii-level borderline star.

But yeah, it is a huge improvement and certain "shwing!" worthy.

I cant see this costing much at all, age, no longer a superstar etc... even Cowart would be too much and leave us with another hole for '18.  
Great to make a run at this post season for sure though, but definitely no future option.

Assuming the trade goes through I would not mind re-signing Phillips to a 1 year deal. He is older, but is still putting up solid numbers. 

But I agree that Cowart is too much to give up for a month of Phillips
