The North Korean envoy at the UN today hoped the journalists enjoyed their holiday weekend, then practically in the next breath said thermonuclear war could break out at any minute.

i think this is a warm up for next year when south korea hosts the winter olympics. that seems far more likely to me to be right up jong's alley, to do something on a really big world stage close to home.

We are one of China's largest trading partners. They will put a stop to North Korea before they turn too far against the states. They are playing both sides of the line. They don't want a unified Korea, but they certainly don't want to lose our money. It is best for them if N. Korea backs down.

Wouldn't be surprised if Kim met with an untimely accident.  China does want to keep North and South separate.   They need someone in there they can control better.
