If you look at the guys who strike out the least, it's mostly slap hitters who are just looking to put the ball in play, like Denard Span, Ben Revere, Jose Altuve, Alcides Escobar, etc, with a couple of flukey exceptions like Brantley and VMart. Doesn't really make sense to compare Rose and Trout since they have different repertoires.

So far Mike Trout has been better so Mike Trout should keep doing what he's been doing and not try to be more like Pete Rose.

He certainly does have the resume to talk hitting....but he also has a resume that keeps him out of the Hall of Fame and gives me pause with most everything he says, even if it's about something where he should have credibility.....

It is not about comparisons as much as Rose having a valid voice on the subject. And if you look at the careers of the top hall of fame hitters most are not Dave Kingman.

Everyone is welcomed to give an opinion but saying he players strike out too much doesn't mean much. Guys aren't going up there trying to strike out.

Plus it's not like Trout us up there striking out or hitting hinge runs. He has a higher average than Rose and walks more than Rose. Trout's average is much higher than Dunn's and comparing them turns Rose's statement into a joke.

It's a pretty ignorant comment. One of the things Trout was known for his first couple of seasons was his ability to make adjustments - often within an AB. I remember seeing a stat that his batting AVG went up in his 2nd, 3rd, 4th/5th ABs of games. Last year he basically had one hole in his swing, which was the high fastball. Whether he makes an adjustment to that, we'll see . . . but to lump him into a generation of hitters who "don't make adjustments anymore", that's just silly.

Not disagreeing about your overall point, but there was plenty of ballot stuffing in the 1970s.

 

The usher would hand out fistfulls of ballots to the people on your row, and there'd be stuffing a plenty.

I understand Trout is an Angel so people are going to be quick to defend him but wow at the people who are making arguments that Pete Rose doesn't know what he's talking about.
