But what if it's a productive out? Your team gets into a better position to score, and your manager gets a raging boner.

Moccasin was completely missing Rose's point that Trout should not be striking out 184 times.

Well, K's and BB's being related is the point you guys are missing then.

Trout has more K's but a higher walk rate as well.

 

In the end, Trout makes less outs than Rose, and that's what matters most.

I'll take 20 BBs and 30 Ks over 50 "could be" productive outs that only have chances to happen with less than 2 outs w/runner on.

No one makes adjustments anymore? Uh, or maybe it's just players valuing not making outs in general, rather than only not making outs one specific way.  As far as I'm concerned, a player who's more concerned with not striking out, rather than getting on base, is playing cowardly.

Mike Trout had a .377 obp last season, Rose had a career .375 obp. But this discussion isn't really about comparing Pete Rose's hitting style.

Rose didn't have strikes called below the knees either. Just saying, not like those are the ones Trout has trouble with, but  . . .

I would bet money that Mike Trout could shorten his swing and make a lot more contact but be a lot less productive.  my guess is that Pete rose couldn't have geared up and hit 30hrs.
