Angels sign Mark Mulder to minor league deal

The only thing that could be awful about this is if they signed him looking for him to BE the 5th starter,   If they are hoping to catch lightning in a bottle on an incentive laden deal - cool.  When the A's or anyone else does that sort of a deal everyone here wonders why the Angels never do that sort of thing.

Mike Monster, Mark Mulder, these sorts of no risk, any reward type moves are nice to see.  Like picking up Ben Weber and Brendan Donnelley off discard piles.

Considering that our AL West opponents added a lot of big left-handed bats, adding a former high-groundball lefty on a Minor League deal with incentives seems like a prudent move to me. Besides his arm should be fresh at least. How productive he is, is a crapshoot but its depth, depth, depth, depth.

This looks like the Chad Cordero signing, version 2.0.  This team does not have enough AAA SP depth, so among other things, you can expect Dipoto to address this need.  Mark Mulder, that'd help solve that problem.

As far as him being a major leaguer, we're either looking at the story of the year or a team torpedoed by an onslaught of injuries.
