Angels sign Mark Mulder to minor league deal

I know it's cliche but reports have said he hasn't felt this good in a very long time.

It's unprecedented for a guy to take this much time off and come back but either way, I doubt he even gets any starts next year. I think it's a flier just to take a chance on him. If he does see any time, I'm guessing he is in the bullpen.

I'll be shocked if he's not working as an analyst for ESPN when the 2014 MLB season starts. I think it's very unlikely that he'll make it back to the majors with the Angels or another team, but if the Angels sign Garza or Tanaka, I would think might ask the Angels to release him from his minor league deal (he signed with the Angels because he thinks he has a chance to be in the starting rotation).

Mark Mulder: "If it doesn’t work, so be it. As of now, how I feel and the ball coming out of my hand I'm excited." #Angels

It sounds like he's already been talking to Scioscia.  I hate baseball/athlete cliches. I hope and think Fletcher is the one that butchered the end of the quote.

this team got 63 of their 162 starts from Joe Blanton, Tommy Hansen, Jerome Williams, Barry Enright, Michael Roth, and Barry Enright to the tune of a 5.5+era.

If things go well (and they get another starter), those 60ish starts will go to Garret Richards, Hector Santiago, Tyler Skaggs, Matt Shoemaker, and maybe Mark Mulder.

That's a lot better.

i'll take a pitcher who once knew how to be great, and is giving it another shot after recuperation, over a pitcher who has never been good. the angels had a whole lot of "never was" pitchers last year, and now we've got a "has been." the only way he makes any money is if he's given us what we need, there's little to no risk.

Totally agree. Johan is a guy I'd really like on our team. Dude threw a no hitter last year and is now considered washed-up.
