Official Mark Trumbo Trade Chatter (DEAL DONE)

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately, I have a feeling that AZ is just using these Trumbo negotiations as leverage for Choo.

then you walk away... no need to trade Trumbo if not for the best deal possible but it is probably the other way around, think Choo's holdup is why AZ hasn't committed to the deal.

Three execs don't see fascination with Trumbo, citing low OBP, streakiness, struggles vs. RHPs in '13. Two compared him to Mark Reynolds.

Those exec's need to keep quiet and hope the Halos can fleece some dumb team who only looks at HR's

Dear other exec's,

Stop cockblocking us,

At the end of the day, Choo is getting over 100 mil from someone, which is a little crazy.  If the D'Backs can and will do that, fine, but I really think their best play is a Trumbo deal with Cahill/Skaggs coming back, where they actual save payroll space and can still go out and get David Price and extend him.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that one possible deal on the table would have the Angels trade Mark Trumbo to the Diamondbacks for Trevor Cahill and Tyler Skaggs.

If that's the case, we're not sure what the Angels are waiting for here. Acquiring either Cahill or Skaggs would probably be sufficient enough, but getting both would be quite a coup and address a major area of need. The Diamondbacks are in the market for a power bat and are prepared to use their pitching surplus in order to do it.

#Dbacks continue to work hard with #Angels on deal for Trumbo. Also remain in mix for Choo.

To answer question that's been asked. Yes, it would be either Trumbo or Choo for #Dbacks not both. Long shot on Choo.

This is the D'Backs beat writer...

@Ken_Rosenthal: That said, Trumbo's RH power is rare in game today. Unlikely #Dbacks would trade two SPs for him, but maybe something like Skaggs-Gregorius?

I don't know much about Gregorius, but if it allows us to trade Aybar and save $7 million, I would do that as well.

Who says the Angels are the one waiting?  It seems clear the D'Backs are trying for Choo, as well, and most likely are waiting to see which route they go.

Angels seriously need to sign Choo. Then trade Trumbo for Skaggs and Gregorius. Trade Aybar for another pitcher then sign Balfour.

If Arte was willing to spend, can you imagine the lineup?

RF  Choo

DH  Calhoun

CF  Trout

1B  Pujols

LF  Hamilton

3B  Freese

2B  Kendrick

C   Conger

SS  Grigorious

Hell, with that lineup I think you could afford to trade Kendrick for pitching as well.  What would be the overall net in increased salary if you send Aybar, Trumbo and Kendrick out and bring in Cahill, Choo and young, cost-controlled pitching?  Might still be under the luxury tax.
