Chicago, all-time record low for January 30th this morning. Wind chill of -52 degrees.

We hit a windchill of about -20 this morning. Seems to happen about once a year or so really. Not nearly as bad as it is further north/east today, but I can confirm that it’s still unpleasant.

I would love to experience a -52 degree wind chill. Safely, of course, and with an indoor hot tub and Irish coffee waiting for me. I think the coldest I've ever been in was 7 degrees, and that's nothing.

i lived in central massachusetts for the 1980-81 school year. it was the coldest winter they had had in 75 years. just about froze my ninnies off.

i think the coldest day we had was somewhere in the -1 to -5 range. pretty doggone cold when you had to be outside.

-20 happens here on occasion, and it absolutely sucks, but it can be dealt with. Bulk up on the layers, be aware of your physical condition, and it’s all good. The coldest I’ve experienced with wind chill though is about -45, and that is physically painful. Like all your skin contracts and starts to hurt in just a few minutes. Hard pass.

I once performed an Einstein thingy.   I was in Reno, coming out to the car when it was 10 degrees outside.   I proceeded to turn on the wiper blades water stream to clean the front window.   And of course immediately, splat, instant window freezing.
