In keeping with my reputation as the guy who "only watches old shows" - I just finished all 5 seasons of Friday Night Lights.

My initial thoughts when I started the series was that a more appropriate title would have been "Friday Night Hormones."

All that aside, the characters Eric and Tammi Taylor really made it worth the watch.  Two terrific performances. Their struggles and triumphs in their day to day life was what kept me coming back. Kyle Chandler was just awesome. One of my all time favorite characters for sure.

I was a little sad to see this one end.

I am at a loss for what to watch next... even though there's been plenty of suggestions. I don't have Netflix and that limits my choices.

I so enjoyed The Killing, Fargo (first 3 seasons) and Cardinal along with FNL.

I've started and dropped tons of shows along the way.

Mot recently I watched the first few minutes of Justified and it just didn't grab me. I gave it a quick boot...

Started Prey but found it hard to follow and didn't make it through the first episode.

I probably need to give some of these more of a chance.

What do you have?  Prime?  HBO?  Hulu?

TG, have you watched Broadchurch?

How about The Fall, Hinterland, Shetland?

A bit different are  Whitecastle and Copper.

I'll look into those. Thanks

None of those are on Hulu... but there is a Whitechapel... did you mean that instead of Whitecastle?

Netflix:  The Queen's Gambit  One of Netflix's limited series about a female chess prodigy.  It goes through all the warts of her life, from her story from upbringing to competitions to finally beating the Ruskie.  It's a fairly lengthy series, and is drawn out in a manner like a biography.  But you kind of feel cheated at the end, that I'll put in the major spoiler.  The story is good, but it's a bit drawn out.  One that I don't know if I can recommend, or not recommend.

Spoiler

So as I said above it's a series that it's set up to be like a biography.  Except it is a pure work of fiction.  Which really made me feel cheated about the whole thing.  Looking back, it's just a homage to social issues disguised as a true story.

Deadwood (free on AmazonPrime) was much better than Justified.

Netflix:  The Trial of the Chicago 7  This was a movie, that I wish Netflix did in their true crime type docuseries method.  Judging by what was presented in the movie, looks like there is a ton of information that is out there.  The movie itself was really over the top, and just sensationalized.  And as a documentary fan, it wet my whistle but it really wasn't enough.  It's somewhat informative on a basic level, but not what I was expecting.  It's worth a watch to introduce you to what happened.  But in the end, I thought it got lost between trying to be entertainment and informative.
