As this is bumped:

Spy Game 9/10

A bias as this is one of my favorites they had in HBO over the weekend. Just watch it and enjoy. Robert Redford is perfect.

The Change Up 7/10

I usually pass on these general comedies, but someone picked it and I'll admit I liked it. It didn't rely on the one liners and had substance to the story and was fun to follow.

Over the last week I watched: Superman 1-4, followed by Superman Returns, as well as Supergirl to go with it all. Let's just say, the films in terms of quality was a little more front-loaded in the order I watched them.

A Man Escaped - 9/10

A meticulously paced prison escape film that plays like a how-to procedural on escaping. It's a very tense film, but one with very little action. The lead actor also shares a startling resemblance to DJ Qualls.

Lake of the Dead - 8/10

A fairly creepy, Norwegian psychological horror film from the 1950s. Pretty clever for it's time and effective.

Incredible.

You give The American a 5 but Horrible Bosses a 9?

My ex made me watch Horrible Bosses, and while I normally don't care for the generic run of the mill comedy, I liked it but it was far from a 9. However, what I find astounding is not the 9 for some popcorn comedy, but a 5 for The American? I get it most won't like or appreciate it, but I consider you a smart dude that would grasp the complexities, subtleties, and interpersonal struggles and thought process George Clooneys character has. It's slow the way a movie like The Professional or Munich is. Aside, from the perfect loner, the movie has one of the best scores I have come across.

I'll admit I fight a losing battle on this one as most people I know never heard of it or like it. I just always hope I don't get the same responses (granted these people probably follow tmz and The Bachelor) that people can look deeper.

Interesting comments. The plot on the American was good, but it moved along so slowly. I liked the complexities of who he was and what he was struggling with, but man, can't that be accomplished with a little more speed? With horrible bosses, the interchanges between the characters literally made me lol. It's possible I was more in the mood for a comedy that night than a drama.

No, I went on a rant and for some reason always do with that movie because most of the time people don't get it or understand the the movie because the pace, which I greatly agree with. It reminds me of Eastern Promises where at the end when you replay the movie you really only have a handful of different scenes and settings combined with heavy dialogue and an acute way of.character development and on the surface it just seems like a bland or boring movie.

I'm actually more surprised when people do like the movie or mention some of the intricacies of it.

My bad for coming off brash. I actually like it because it is different.

first episode of breaking bad.

awesome.

cant wait to watch the rest.

Shows a trip.

I won't give my opinion because you are just starting it. I found some free time last fall and plowed through the series on Netflix then caught the live season.....or something along the lines of marathoning the show then whenever the last season was aired watching it then.

It's collectively engrossing.

Finally watched Shaun of the Dead

I give it a 6-7.  Definitely had some funny.  I am not a fan of gore so that probably soured it a bit for me.

Big fan of Simon Pegg.  Felt like the second half of the movie got a bit tired and boring after the first half brought the funny.

I love Shaun of the Dead but can understand others not feeling the same way. I'm kinda curious if you would like Hot Fuzz. I actually might like that movie even more than Shaun. It's essentially the same thing, but spoofs the buddy cop action genre, while mixing in some horror and Wicker Man elements.

Recently I've watched Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Still have to watch El Mariachi. I had never seen any of them before. I liked Desperado a little better, because Once Upon a Time in Mexico had way too many characters to keep up with. It obviously all comes together at the end though. The movies have the right amount of gore and comedy, and the down times aren't too long. I really enjoyed the two. I'm not going to rate it though cause there's always someone here that will tell you you're wrong.

Nothing was on late last night but light porn while scrolling through the premiums and came across something called Killer Joe with Matthew McConaughey (sp?). Ended up falling asleep. Anyone see it? Not sure if I should follow up and watch the rest.

Anyone watching Da Vinci's Demons on Starz? I'm finding myself really liking this series.

Brandon, I believe you mentioned that you're going to be watching Magic City. I really enjoyed the first season. It has the right early 60's vibe going on and the hotel look is really great. Of course, there are quite a few hot women and that only enhances the show.

Should've opted for the light porn.

Funny, I almost started watching that movie too, but I've never been a fan of McConaughey, so I passed.

El Mariachi is the same as Desperado only with a much smaller budget.

McConaughey has been great the last couple years now in my opinion. Killer Joe, Bernie, Magic Mike (yes, even Magic Mike), and The Paperboy (movie sucked overall, but he was decent in it).

Also, Mud is likely my favorite film of this year so far and he was good in that as well. He's also got new Scorsese that he's in later this year as well as new Nolan for 2014

I agree about Mud.  Really good flick and he was great.  He's on a good run.  I've got Killer Joe set to record at some point and intend to watch it ASAP.

Here we go on the late night tip:

Thanks Sam, if I come across it I'll watch it. Started to watch it because it was the only thing on that had a legit star and movie title that didn't include the word busty. It was weird, but looked like it may pick up.

I have no intention on seeing This Is The End, but a few people that have given me good recs in the past really liked this. May be worth a watch at some point.

IE, no doubt. I love that era and backing off of Mad Men which is my favorite show I was immediately enticed. It didn't start off as solid as I hoped, especially since I wasn't sure if this show would make it far, but really picked up. I really like the show and vibe as well. I haven't followed too much with the new trailers or info, but the minimal amount I've seen looks great and they have James Caan on board this season. Should be fun.

Thought the same thing, HK. I couldn't get past them trying to make him look like Bruce Willis.

No problem. And yeah, it definitely is weird and because of that, no guarantee you'll like it as much as I did, but I would say it's worth checking out.
