Yeah..that's pretty much the consensus. I just had a lot fun with it.

On a similar note, have you seen The Guard? Similar vibe to In Bruges and written and directed by John Michael McDonagh (brother of Martin McDonagh). Also stars Gleeson.

Loved The Guard. Truly inspired cursing, too.

watched 2 documentaries on netflix.

"jiro dreams of sushi." - about the most badass sushi chef in the world, being doing it for 75 years. has a tiny little shop that seats 9 people, and a michelin 3 rating (insane), no appetizers or anything other than sushi, every person gets 20 pieces of whatever is fresh that day, costs $300 and you're out the door in 15 mins (so its $20 a minute).  but the guy is very unpretentious, he's just awesome at it and people get reservations a year ahead of time. very interesting about the art/discipline of sushi and the guy and his sons.

"after porn" - about porn stars and what they do after porn. good flick, interesting.

Jiro is one of the documentaries I've been meaning to check out from last year.

Speaking of which, have you guys checked out either The Imposter or Searching for Sugar Man?

funny i was just on IMDB making sure i spelled Jiro right and it suggested "the imposter" and "searching for sugar man."

haven't seen either, but will probably check them out.

also ive heard amazing things about "the art of killing" so that'll probably be next up in my lineup.

Was reading about Breaking Bad coming back so I watched the latest episode again. Such a trip. I feel like I need to watch the whole series again before it starts back up.

Agree. Seems like forever since the last mini season. I've never purchased a boxed DVD set, but this might be my first.

more netflix documentary fun.

"forks over knives" - about nutrition and obesity epidemic, tracks american diet as it switch from plant based to animal based, and how its basically killing us. really interesting.

"fat, sick and nearly dead" - similar theme, but less scientific. focused on getting natural foods (organic fruits/vegetables) via juicing. also very interesting.

thumb up to both.

You mean Act of Killing right? If so, yeah, I heard great things about  coming out of TIFF last year. Have been looking forward to it since.

Saw the juicing doc as well, good stuff. I was already doing green smoothies, but seriously considered juicing after watching it.

On the doc end, I believe it's called Craigslist Joe. About a dude who goes a month or so with only access to Craigslist for needs. Pretty interesting.

i saw that one too, will check it out.

yeah ive never been a huge fan of strict juicing - i mean you really arent going to sit down and eat 2 apples, 4 stalks of celery, beets, lemon, kale and spinach in a single sitting. but, as a supplement to your diet i think its great. ive done an organic smoothie for breakfast for a long time, but i might try the juice route just for sh*ts y giggles. or ive heard great things about doing a juice cleanse for 3 days once a month, or one day a week. i think that stuff is great, but these 60 day juice-only thing like in the movie needs to be (imo) viewed as purely a catalyst for lifestyle change, which he clearly says as well.  all in all i loved it, the second half with the trucker guy was better than the first.

but processed foods and dairy are clearly killing the country. its amazing looking at the stats. or in the "forks over knives" they showed norway was eating mainly animal products (meat, dairy and eggs). then the nazis showed up for occupation and took all the animals to use to feed the troops, so norway had to switch to plant-based agrarian diet almost overnight. and the cancer/sickness rate dropped immediately. then when the war was over, the nazis left and meat/dairy/eggs came backc in abundance and boom, up goes heart attacks and cancer. interesting stuff.

Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead is what got me into juicing. I do the three day/once a month cleanse at a juice cafe a couple blocks from my house. They have the juices ready to pick up each morning and if I'm hungry I'll eat some vegetables to get me through the day. It's amazing how much more energy I have when I'm drinking juice. I also mix one in my day every now and then.

I checked out Jiro Dreams of Sushi last night thanks to you guys. Talk about a man that has perfected his craft.

If I ever had plans to go to Tokyo I'd think of making a reservation there. It would be made well in advance and I would research proper Japanese etiquette for eating sushi. I would probably even hire a translator to accompany me so I wouldn't make a fool of myself. To me the food looked amazing enough to justify the cost and burden to eat there. Even if Jiro was gone and it was his son running the place I most likely still try it.
