Angels re-sign Raisel Iglesias (4 years, $58 million), DFA Selman

The back end of our bullpen is pretty good now. I'm not sure if Loup is immediately penciled in as the "set-up" guy, as he's mostly been a lefty specialist or whatever you call them. But he's done well against right handed batters the last 2 years.

Either way, the bullpen has improved. Hopefully we'll add another reliever and pick up a flyer or 2 for depth.

I wouldn't be opposed to having Cishek back, but Maddon is...Maddon so it's probably not the best move.

Maddon is probably bitching in some group text somewhere about cishek as we are about stroman somewhere

I want Cishek back BECAUSE of Maddon.

Maddon is going to fall in love and drive someone into the ground by over-exposing him.  I'd rather it be a guy like Cishek than a higher leverage RP.

And again, I don't mean this to complain. If it had to be 4/58, I completely understand and would've made the same decision.

I just feel like a fair market deal, one that paid him what he's comparatively worth as well as what's best for the team, I was thinking 4 years, 13 million per year. You don't want to go past age 35, and he's 31. He's a reliever, and those are so volatile, but he's about as proven as they come.

No complaining. It's just my assessment. A slight, but necessary overpay.

I agree.  I too think it is a bit of an overpay, but it's great to have a closer and have the end of games locked down.

Iglesias, Loup, Mayers, Warren, Quijada, Herget, Wantz, and a long reliever.

I could see another reliever being added as well, although someone who will probably earn probably just around 1-2mil.

It might be worth accepting the possibility that the Angels aren't acquiring any more starters. Not only have they spent most of their wad already, but still could use with a middle infielder and possibly a catcher and reliever or two.

I am very impressed with the Offseason moves.  Syndergaard and Loup were my desired additions along with retaining Iglesias.  Check!

While I like Stroman the pitcher he has turned me off with his Twitter activity and he has even blocked me from viewing his account and I never interacted with him so I am confused.

Need to preserve long term deals to extend Ohtani as Japanese philosophy used to say naiyu gaikan  or something like that.

I am looking to trade with Marlins after signing Suzuki.  Looking at Sixto Sanchez after he proves health after Shoulder surgery recovery.

This is a good thing. It probably takes the Angels out of the Shortstop market but I think locking down a bullpen will garner more wins.

Now, get one more late innings guy (Tepera?).   Iglesias, Loup, Tepera, and Mayers in the late innings might allow them to get by without having Stroman.

Especially if Ohtani and Thor stay healthy and the young pitchers take another step forward

Who’s spot on the 40 man roster did Iglesias take?  I think we were at 39 when we released Gosselin, then made the Lorenzen signing official, that put it at 40 again.  So am I wrong or does someone need to be cut?

Yes, they are at 41. My guess is Selman is probably going to be released.

So I’m guessing they’ve agreed to the deal, and today Selman or someone will be released and the Iglesias signing will be made official.
Or a trade is coming to free up a roster spot or two.

I'm still curious about a possible Willson Contreras trade too. I imagine there are other teams ahead of us - I could see the Mariners involved here - but it's no secret Maddon loves the dude and it's pretty obvious with the Gomes signing and Contreras' tweet he's on the move. Probably taking a physical with a deal announced today.

Biggest reason the Angels could be involved, aside from the Maddon bromance, is the fact that there really hasn't been anything leaking about a Contreras trade.

You don't want Stroman because his Twitter behaviors hurt your feelings?

Not at all.  I like him as a Pitcher so I advise signing him.  He is durable injury wise even though he doesn't pitch deep into Games and pitches to contact.  He is great defensively at his position.  His Twitter is personal but it doesn't impact me objectively as he would be a good SP to have.

Good,  because that would be a very snowflake mindset to have.  I'm glad you can disagree with someone politically and still be able to root for them.

I have watched him up close for the past two years and he isn't a bad guy at all. His Father I believe is a retired Police Officer on Long Island.  I just find his Twitter activity distasteful and I believe it will depress his market value as it should.  There are consequences for one's actions and Teams including White Sox and Yankees and others have removed him from consideration.

And you know this how?

I've found most of the posts I've seen from Stroman to be positive, so I am not sure which specific posts you think are "actionable" or deserve "consequences"?

Stroman has blocked me so I don't have access to his posts.  I can only go to secondary sources and media.
